What if . . .

What if it had been Optimus Prime who had said, "I can't deal with that now!" instead of Ultra Magnus? Would we be giving Prime such a hard time?  :tfsad

Prime is a dick so it wouldn't be outta character any way

doesn't fit the Prime cuz it's wrong IMO

and it's for me the best line UM had in the movie

Out of character, and besides, I never gave UM any grief over uttering that line. He did the best he could, and the fact that he couldn't handle everything at the same time, makes him more real, more his own character isntead of a Prime rip-off, which he kind of started out as.

i never saw WTF was so bad about that line. ok, so Galvatron blows up the ship that half of UM's team was in, WTF was he suppose to do? allow his grief to distract him and run the risk of getting blown up too? that line is not the sign of a leader who doesn't mourn the deaths of his men, that line is the sign of a leader who keeps his head in a very dangerous combat situation. you want to talk about a leader who can't deal with grief? Rodimus Prime fits the bill perfectly as he constantly let his grief over Optimus' death interfre with his effectiveness as leader. and who was it that was always bailling out Rodimus' ass whenever he screwed up? Ultra Magnus!

Would have been better if UM would just say STFU.  Seriously, Prime would have never been allowed to say that.

Wouldve been better if UM smacked hotrod while he was tring ((and failing)) to help prime.

Yeah, UM gets a bad rap.  He didn't even want to be leader in the first place, and as mentioned before, Rodimus was 10 times whinier, and UM was the one who was basically running Blot in season 3

I know I've never been in the army and that, but I know what a leader has to feel and think on.  If a few men/women are killed during the line of fire and you have the rest of your troops to think about, then their welfare coems first.  In battle you can't afford to mourn, you just have to keep pushing forward to make sure that no one else dies.  So that line UM said is something that I'm sure is said in many wars and battles that commanders face, do they go back and risk the lives of their troops or do they hold onto a faint hope that those who may have been killed haven't been killed and just keep going in a hope of keeping the others alive and getting out of the battle in one piece.

So I have to agree, to say something like that is the sign of a good leader who can't handle everything in one go, he/she just has to charge ahead and mourn when there's time.  A good leader has to be willing to put his/her feelings aside when death is making house calls.

Ultra Magnus is like the guy who gets shafted at the office and on friday afternoon is told to come in on saturday cause his coworker is out on vacation
