Can someone explain this to me...

If every one had the same body, they wouldn't be unique and they all have the same weaknesses. Then they'd be easier to defeat. Plus, TF's are really humanlike. Just like we'd be pissed to walk into a room and see someone with the same outfit we're wearing, I guess they'd be the same. Cept for the fact that they're not wearing outfits technically.

Maybe the first few TFs had the exact same design like you know the Decepticlones did but as they got more sentiance, they decided to diversify.

I'd think just about any TF would be prone to damage from, like, explosions and stuff. Or did you mean that one side would just win by attrition when the other side gets recalled by the factory?

They're human-like because we made them that way. We as humans express our personalities through our sense of self. It would be counter to everything we innately understand and believe to have a bunch of cloned robots as main characters in a show or whatever.

I mean like Beast Machine. Rattrap and crew were able to create various devices that affected the frequencies and inner working of the various types of Vehicons.

Your explosions comment was funny by the way

Yeah but those weren't targeted to specific "models" per se... they were just weapons of general PWNing (see "explosions" above). Plus the Vehicons were all being controlled by one person (or several), which was where their real weakness came in. After all, once you learn how the guy controlling them thinks, you can beat all of them. If they'd all had individual sparks, they would have been much more dangerous IMO.

thats a good point, in the end though it just comes down to power

and anyway the TF brand survives on the conceit of having "humanized" robots that are as individual as we are, even though that's impractical.

it makes more sense if you factor in the spark concept because then you can think of a tf as an incorporal life form made of pure energy that posseses a mechanical body in order to interact with the physical world.

What always bothered me that in the non gen1 continuity series (RID, Armada etc) when a character was reformated, they just changed the colour scheme. FOR PRIMUS' SakE DESIGNERS, USE SOME INGENUITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A. Smokescreen got a whole new body.

Well sure, they can have individual sparks, but how do you convey that indivuality visually? They've got to have different physical bodies for us to "see" the difference, since that's how we are. But it's less realistic that way.

Of course it's also less realistic to have bipedal robots with high centers of gravity.... but hey ;)

Why were the seekers in G1 all the same model, yet Starscream is the only one who stood out character wise?

Because Starscream had like 99% of the air-time of the Seeker group. Not only was he their leader, but 2nd or 3rd in command of the Decepticons. Typically, leaders or commanders end up getting more of the spotlight than other characters. Although, it seems that characters such as Thrust got more attention than Skywarp or Thundercracker.

It is more like Humans wear clothes, and robots wear paneling. Their base structure would most likely be the same, like our skeletons or muscles. So you have a difference between two characters, say a TF and a Drone/worker, but it would be the same as a human vs a human soldier. Same base structure, different capabilities. Doesn't make them weak.

Back in the 80s, it was more acceptable to keep characters around longer, and NOT change them. I believe it was not allowed for a character to die on television. Since most of these reformattings occur because the character had died, then that would explain that. As the early to late 90s rolled around, Anime had shown that powered-up versions of characters became very popular (partly thanks to DBZ) and it all trickles down from there.
