Can someone explain this to me...

This one is a noggin scratcher.  Why do some transformers look exactly alike, aside from paintjpobs in the various TFU's?

Seeing Cybertron Skyshadow made me think this.  I mean, when Jetfire got an upgrade after the powerlinx battles why did he get the same chasis as a Decepticon (or vice versa?).

Why were the seekers in G1 all the same model, yet Starscream is the only one who stood out character wise?

whoa... I just gave myself a headache...  :tfmad

sometimes a design is used as a prototype and the leaders think "that seems to work, we'll create more of them". thats how i see it. plus hasbro likes repainting and more dosh

i asume in G1 it was just down to using the differnt toys as best they could

as for repaints out side of G1 its just getting money out of a mold befor demand for it falls

story wise thiers alot of body design stealing in BT so i supose the same goes here

Well, it seemed to me that tfs could share the same bodys, but not be the same person or wahtever, because body models and types were common on cybertron.  So someone could want to build a new tf, so they find the old mold ((or whatever)) and make that tf, put in the spark and what not.

repaints=more money.

as for a story reason? I figure it comes down to, if a design worked once, tweak it and reuse it for you're own purpose.

They have the same bodies for the same reason we have car models: interchangable parts make repairs/upgrades easier.

Your sig is teh beautiful  :tfsad

Yeah that's kind of what I figured too in regards to body types.  Kind of like car models maybe and they slowly refine them over the years.

story-wise it'd make sense for all of them to be exactly the same.

Perhaps initially, but over time... how so?

Well I was just saying that if it makes sense for some of them to have the same body type, then it'd make sense for all of them too. At least within the same vehicle class etc. Like all the jets the same, all the tanks the same, etc. From a story standpoint. But it wouldn't be very interesting visually, and anyway the TF brand survives on the conceit of having "humanized" robots that are as individual as we are, even though that's impractical.
