I'd have to disagree with that statement, seeing as they invented them.

 

Anyway this is really pissing me off. The BT looks totally sweet except for the lack of black stripes, which really hurts the alt mode IMO since there's just so much yellow. But the Alt robot mode is totally wrong. It looks like crap.

Actually they created the toys, Hasbro and Marvel Comics created the characters. So from a character standpoint, Takara doesn't know the Transformers. Sunstreaker doesn't like humans very much.

Anyways yeah I got him quite a few weeks ago. The only real complaint I had was the paint quality for:

 

a) his chest seems like a REALLY sloppy paint app

b) his eyes are almost grey

 

But regardless, I was more excited to get this than I was the past 8 alt/bt's. He is just such a COOL toy. The alt mode is a bit bland....I might change the silver trim at the bottom of the doors to black and that's about all I will do to change it.

I'm getting the alt, but I might get the BT eventually, if the alt bot mode really bothers and I can convince my self to spend $50+ on a fourth viper mold.

I haven't come across any sloppy paint apps yet, and his parts seem to fit fairly smoothly in car mode.  But his blue eyes are a little gray (wow, that was danm poetic).

 

But yeah, I was more excited to get him than most of my recent TF Purchases (except for may Star Convoy :schin).

Sure it is more costly, but i think it is more cooler....heck if black strips are so important, we can put it on our selves...or prehaps reprolables will have them soon.

 

There was a site with comparison pics of Alt vs. BT sunstreaker... i just checked..the pics have been removed...

Usually that is what appeals most to me in a Transformer: the character. I mean that is what made them cool in the 80's. The toys themselves were cool but the great show and even better comics really made me like them.

 

I mean Ruckus http://www.tfu.info/1988/Decepticon/Ruckus/ruckus.htm does not look like much but his bio (the Transformers universe entry in the Marvel comic or perhaps the one in the DW comic) made him cool. I have wanted him ever since I read his bio in the comic. The toy is rather poor but I like him nontheless.

 

So even though Takara did create the Transformers it was Hasbro and Marvel that actually gave them life. That is what made them sell so good. I doubt they would have sold that well without this backstory that Hasbro and Marvel gave them. I mean transforming toys are not uncommon.

 

The fact that Transformers are living induviduals with very distinct personalities makes the Transformers show better than all those other shows about giant robots. These are not controlled by humans and that is what I liked best (and hated about the other shows).

 

And Sunstreaker is an arrogant Transformer who thinks he is the best warrior there is. Pairing him up with a human does seem rather illogical and makes the toy less cool in my book as it no longer suits the character.

 

If you are going to pair up G1 characters with humans then at least pair up Transformers that are willing to be part of such a team. Let them pair up with classic G1 characters such as Spike or Sparkplug. Like a Hound retool as Trailbreaker with Sparkplug and a retool of the Mazda RX-9 as Bumblebee (I think the bodyshape of the RX-8 is close enough to a Beetle and I like the mold a lot.) with Spike.

 

I could see Skids with a human passanger seeing how he did "team-up" with Donny Finkleberg for a few issues. Or if there is ever a Goldbug alt have him come with a Charlie Wong figure. Perhaps obsure names but they make a lot more sense to me as these are G1 characters. And the alts are based on G1 figures.

 

And I would like it a whole lot better than these "random" figures. Sure this "Junko" was in RID but as I recall she was never named and did dress more conservitively. She and Sunstreaker never met either as they are from completely different shows. So such odd choices make me  :tfhuh

 

Now if she was included with Sideburn, then I would actually like it.  :tflaugh But right now I see these BTA's as a way of making more money off fans by offering the same molds again with minor changes (or simply a new paint job) and a tacked on accessory to supposedly make them more interesting.

 

Sunstreaker is really cool but Blaster being a grey van is just a dumb idea to me. The Red Altert does not work either as Red alert was a Fire Chief car instread of a police car. With slightly different colors he would have made a nice Prowl though.

 

The first BT/Alts were cool because the hommages were spot on and really fitting. Such as Swindle looking better than Hound which I imagine Swindle would do if he looked almost the same or Jazz once again having a really cool car mode. (I think the hight point of the line was Tracks.)

 

Sadly the line has gone downhill hommage wise. I mean I like the red corvette a lot but Swerve? Why would a geologist be a sports car? I think I will have to rename him once I get him. He would be a nice Hot Rod save for the face.  :tftongue

His bot mode is visually the best homage to his G-1 mode color wise granted there may be some small paint issues but they can be corrected.

And his vehicle mode had small black details the BT embodies that look in vehicle mode as well.

 

The Alt version looks like a poorly repainted Deadend and it still has the deep red color from Deadend on SS's legs... :tdown

 

And why is everyone soooo obbsessed with the stripes they are visible throught the Alt's plastic???

 

imo the BT looks the most like G-1 Sunstreaker :thumb And he will be the one I get if possible...If not Im just switching the clear parts and side pannels Beacause I like the detail work I did on my Sunstreaker repaint
