Generation 2 Scouts. Some comments.

Recommended Posts

With all of the attention and added emphasis on the GF/Cybertron line I thought this would be a much appreciated change. Not that I'm board with it mind you.

Today I recieved an Ebay shipment consisting of all four G2 Scouts. Not an official name but I think it fits considering how tiny each one is. The lot consisted of Turbofire, the green pickup, Rapido, the red sports car, Windbreaker, the orange Camaro, and Scram, the blue corvett. Each is in pretty decent shape, with only slight to moderate stickerware, and Rapido's engine/gun looks to have suffered the most ware. For the most part they're complete with Scram being the only exception. Rather than coming with his original gun I ended up with another one from Windbreaker.  :tdown  Not a huge complaint but I'll have to find the original down the line.

The toys themselves. To be blunt they're G1 esque bricks, with cool alt modes and limited playability. Why bother? Because there damned cool for being released in 93, and selling them off at garage sale years ago was one of the stupidest things I can recall doing reguarding TFs. Also though I don't buy heavily in nostalga I got giddy from again being able to own em. First TFs I recall actually buying with my own money.

Asthetically speaking these still look awsome. Alt modes are bang on forwhat they're supposed to be, each sports clear windows, and a somewhat visible interior, and one of my favorite TF gimicks of all time. The idea of disguising each bots weapon as a seriosly modded chromed engine is simple and genius. Incidentally the BT/Alternator line has adapted the same idea for greater effect. In bot mode the asthetics still work. Plenty of detailing, and the head sculpts are some of the best in the G2 line actually featuring light piping to give the eyes a hazy white/silver glow. Also these molds really stand out in a collection because aside from a European varient with pink windows these havent ever been rereleased/repainted in any line since G2.

The only drawbacks are of course the lack of any given articulation. The only exception being  you can raise lower the forearms. And the simplistic transformations which is two steps above spychanger.

Interesting to note that though it looks like each sports it's own colour scheme all Hasbro did was inverse the colours on two of them. This is something I never would have noticed having only three of them then but with all four together it's painfully obvious. Also reguarding colour, for G2 releases these still don't look half bad IMO.

Comparison shots between Cybertron Armorhide, G2 Turbofire, and RID Ironhide. It literally blew my mind how tiny these Scouts really were. I remember them being bigger. :tflaugh
