Deathsaurus

Recommended Posts

Well, first off let me say that I'm not going to give this a score as such because comparing G1 to modern toys is like comparing apples to Crest of a Knave by Jethro Tull. I also direst you to www.tfu.info/1989/Destron/Deathsaurus/deathsaurus.html for the full shots as my camera sucks right now. I have only supplied pics to show weird angles you don't normally see.

Alt Mode: He starts off as something thats not quite a dragon. It looks to me like something that would show up in a Godzilla movie and promptly get its Blot ruined by that spinning turtle thing. The toy in general is very loud. The mixing of gold and silver chrome is definitely a faux pas. Mine is missing some stickers and has some chrome wear on the gold parts and I think it actually improves the look. Go figure. One thing to note is that those large black ovals that attach the legs to the body are heavy-duty diecast. I wasn't expecting that since diecast disappeared in '86. The Tigerbreast is a very cool little guy and the bird is not too shabby either (the missing stickers on the bird is a shame, however.) Although the front is a little plain and the back a little garish. The thing looks much better in person.

Transformation: The tail pulls off and opens into the shield of course. Next, the Alt arms fold down int their little slots and are held in by springs. The animals back will become the front, so the wings need to be folded down past the legs. This requires a little maneuvering. There is not much clearance between the wings and the black metal parts. In fact, they even rub a little, causing a frayed edge on the wing. Bad design. Next, those same metal parts rotate up, making the legs into the robot arms. These little light blue panels open allowing the ankle assembly to fold up nicely in the back and thus revealing the fists. Close the gold panels. The waist and thighs are clearly visible. Open the small panels and fold down the robot legs. Close the panels and fold out heel-supports. Tilt the dragon neck all the way up then fold the whole neck assembly straight down. That's the robot done. I've shown pics of the Breasts back sides so you can see how they work. The Tiger was surprisingly complicated.

Robot: He is fairly well articulated for a G1 toy. He has knee, elbow, wrist, and hip joints. His head is awesome, but due to the angle of its visor its hard to get a photo of his face. His rifle has to be my new favorite accessory. Screw bayonets, make mine morning stars! It has a hand peg on the back of the gun. If anyone knows why, let me know. Without the Breasts, his chest is very plain (though the missing Con Symbol would help).  I figured that he could wear the Eagle OR the Tiger. I didn't realize that there is enough room for the Eagle to slide all the way in with the Tiger. The whole thing is like a power master panel. The panel easiy comes out of track and feels cheap though. The Eagle makes for a boring chest but the tiger is definitely where its at. I'm sure that's why its the only pic you ever see. I threw in a pic of the back just because you never see one. The breasts turn into target masters as well. The Eagle has a fold out handle but the Tiger just slides around his fist. Neither are interesting, nor do they compare to the sheer pwnage of his rifle. The shield can't fit in his hand but clips onto either shoulder.
