G1 DVD Collection Help

Recommended Posts

As some one who buys alot of anime DVDs, I would suggest that you stay away from anythign that is labeled as All Region and/or made in China/ Hong Kong. Both tend to be good sighns that what you would be buying is not an official release and is actualy priated, meaning that all the people involved with the show are not seeing a dime. But that's just my opinion.

But what about the quality? Is it any different? I don't buy a lot of anime DVDs because they are ridiculously overpriced, but if there's an alternative and the quality is the same, I would buy it.

the quality of mine was comparable to the official US release.  The menus aren't in english, but they aren't hard to figure out.  The only issue I had was season 3 being out of order.

Well, there is not much choice between the Rhino set & the Chinese set because

the Official Rhino dvd's are not in production anymore.  All the official sets I have

seen on ebay or amazon are owned by private sellers and are used.

A season 2 part 1 box set on Amazon starts at $59.50 used and someone wants

$98.68 for a new set!  I have the Rhino ones, but If I didn't I would buy the

Chinese set.

Id hold out on the Rhino ones but I never realized they were getting rare. Glad I bought mine when they came out. I even got Beast Machines on preorder through Rhino. I guess I'm an "official" realease guy

Well, I'm somewhat of a home theatre-file, and I think the quality is excellent.  I'm watching this set on my 65 inch HDTV, in Dolby Digital, and it looks and sounds perfect.

At the end of the day it's still a 20 year old cartoon, but these DVD's look and sound about as good as it's gonna get I think.

Good thing I got them when I did. I would not fancy having to get illegal DVD's. Just the idea makes me cringe.

Official releases only for me.

Not everything from China is 'illegal'.  They are official releases.

i have all the rhino sets even the vhs's which had two eps. on each tape. I never saw that one set with the cardboard seeing how it prob. never came out to the states.
