Nah, they're spying on Chromedome and Perceptor who are researching a new type of biological fuel produced by microscopic bacteria. In principal one should see the formulas on the big screen of Teletran-1 but that's more something you can put on as a colorist I guess. :)

 

And yes, Chromedome visited the Ark before Autobotcity was built.
