I need help with TRYPTICON

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and I must admit that I'm not a collector and that I have registered because I need the help of someone who knows about Transformers and can give me an honest opinion. I hope this is not against this Board's rule, if it is I sincerely apologize.

Here is my problem. I'm about to sell a MIB G1 TRYPTICON on eBay and I want to make sure that I do this right, in other words I don't want to state something that it is not true. Not being a collector or someone who knows much about Transformers and what C8, C9 etc means, I thought that the best thing to do would be to ask someone who does know.

You may wonder why I have a TRYPTICON to sell if I'm not a collector. Well, it was purchased as a gift for a guy, who loves Transformers but who turned out to be a real jerk.  :tdown

So now I'm trying to get the money I spent for this Transformer back.

I'm trying to write my ad for eBay and to decide what price I should sell it for. I bought it about 3 years ago for $400. This is an original Generation 1 figure. The TRYPTICON is in excellent conditions, it comes in its original box and it has never been used. It is 100% complete and it includes instruction and unapplied stickers. So I was thinking of selling it for $450, is it a fair price? My real problem though is that I'm stuck with what condition the box is. I know you are suppose to grade the condition of the box with C8 C9 etc, but I don't know what a C8 box is supposed to look like...This box has corner wear on the back. So I'm turning to you to help me put the right condition of the box in the description of the item I'm about to sell.

I'm gonna attach a few pictures of the box, if any of you could kindly take a look at them and let me know what condition I should write in my ad, I would be very grateful. Once again, I do apologize if I was not supposed to post about this or if I should have posted in a different forum. :)

Thank you,

Scarlet

Its really just a personal opinion

c10 = perfect(in other words, theres no such thing)

c1 = a peice of melted plastic that somes says was a TF at one point.

I would personally grade that box about C6

Agreed, although I would go with about a C5 myself, IMO. The back crease really does it harm.

true.

Thank you for your imput guys, it is very much appreciated! I was confused because the front of the box is almost perfect but then that crease on the back looks bad...so I didn't know what to write. So far you agree that it is between C5 and C6 so I trust you.

Since I wanna make sure to do this right, I will include all these pictures in my eBay ad. I have bought things in the past that were said to be in great conditions and they weren't at all, so I don't want to do the same thing to someone else.

not to discourage you but i doubt that you,ll be able to sell it for 450.00... 250.00 maybe, i check ebay every week for trypticon parts and well even with the box it still hard to pass 250.00..

lots of pics = good idea

make sure to put pics of the actual toy as well. :tfdance

Really? I guess I was very naive to pay $400 for it 3 years ago then. I was told that since the the Trypticon had never been used, was 100% complete with instructions and unapplied stickers, $400 was a fair price. Of course it would have been easy to fool me...

These are all the other pictures I'll place on the Ebay auction. I was gonna place a $400 reserved price but if it's not the right price, maybe I should settle for a lower price... too bad I won't make up the money I spent on it.  :wtf
