Recommended Posts

ok ive been thinking about it what would of been the idle set...let me know what you think

Deathsarus - TM2 Megatron...i htink we can all agree on this one

Ironhide - Energon Towline (they got this one right)

Chromia - BM Skydive...could easily be turned into a fembot

Ricochet - Energon Rodimus..i think it could of worked (if they went with more of the feel the reissue had)

Dirge - Energon Divebomb...if you want to have a clone army, do it like the terrorcons/vehicons...VARIETY!

Buzzclaw - BW Buzzclaw..what they chose is fine

Fallback - RiD X-Brawn...this figure could of totally pulled it off

so what do you guys think?

I'm not normally a ranter, and the set is actually decent IF it was not worth $265. I kinda wished they used the creative team of 3H, since although those guys had lousy business skills, at least they gave the fans what they wanted, and the prices of their Botcon figures are not restrictive enough that it would really only cater to those who joined the membership, which would only be less than 10% of the international fandom.

Which is something that didn't work and resulted in the company going under.  Radical changes were needed to allow a Convention and Club to continue.  3H was taking losses and the last couple years SHOWED it by not having stuff at the Convention for the registrants.  So far, MC has delivered all Club magazines promised with membership, as well as the free toy.

BTW, everyone needs to remember that there is an advisory board of respected fans working with MC.  People like the Hartmans and Ben Yee.  I'm not going to say you need to be all happy and nice, but remember who is working with MC on the exclusives before you just say "MC sucks!", because they're getting help from people that have been well respected for years.

Honestly, no offense meant to those guys, but the fact that MC has those folks aboard really means sh*t to me. I wouldn't care if I were one of the "advisory panel." I'd expect more outta myself than that if I genuinely wanted people to buy my product. I'm not sitting here saying the usual BS that "I could do better than that", but I doubt I'd do any worse. Personally, I'm tired of the whole "these people are respected in the fandom so they know what's best" stuff. I know a crap load of Transfans that none of you probably even know and I'm SURE they could come up with something equally or better than this set.

It's like I said. It's not that these toys are just the worst ever. They're just better suited for retail for the most part, imo. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this stuff, in Universe packaging, at a retail store and for retail prices. I know it's MC's first year with the TF license and all, but if we're getting a rush job, we shouldn't be paying for it with a lack of creativity. It's nothing personal. We're just the customer.

i just gotta say, im loving the unity of us fans on this one guys :D

:thumb Me too, man. If nothing else, MC did us a favor by finally getting most of us of one mind. It's a nice change. :D

Everyone's complaining about the price but unless you're getting the non-attendee package, that price covers alot more than the figures.  And as for some of the 3H comparisons, need I mention the over priced Sideswipe who had a sticker on his roof, mispaired missile launchers, and a low quality box like the other con exclusives that year.  Sunstreaker had those same problems, but he was "free with hotel".  I'm looking forward to the set.  Towline is possibly my favorite Energon Autobot mold and the Ironhide repaint looks great.  As I've said, Buzzclaw is a fun toy and I don't mind having more of the sucker around.  Yeah, the name issue on Chromia is awkward, but whatever.  Remolded head, and the colors aren't quite the same as the Paradron Medic figure, so we finally have an Omnicon recolor besides Strongarm and Signal Flare in the US.  Deathsaurus, not my fav mold, but a cool character and a nice head sculpt.  Fallback and Richochet are the only ones not floating my boat as Strongarm was one of the two Omnicons that didn't do anything for me and no recolor of that particular Cyberjet mold will ever beat RM R-Blade.

The only reason even non attendees are complaining about the prices now is because of what they get for their money. Most people were expecting a higher quality of product. How many people have paid half of that just for the BW TM repainted Black Arachnia as Arcee or how about the previously Japanese only X-9 Ravage repainted as Tigatron? Don't confuse the issue. It's not the "$265 for only 7 figures!" as much as it is the "we paid $265 for those? WTF?". There is a reason behind the madness. It's not just fans Starscreaming about nothing, for once.

so what do you guys think?

Well, I don't know why there had to be a Buzzclaw at all. He sucks. Deathsaurus I wouldn't have chose, personally either, but if so, I guess anything with a dragon mode would work. Meh. To each, their own. Ricochet. How about something that still looks sort of Jazz'ish? Dirge. Buzzclaw/Dirge is a FUZOR! Fugly. Anything would have been better at that point. Fallback. Were they trying to rip off someone else's idea of the Strongarm mold being used as Brawn? If so, atleast try to pull it off a little better. That's one of the head remolds I would have done. Ironhide. Nice job, but a little much red. Also, you don't get many points there, because I figure that one is a no brainer. 100% of the fandom said "Ironhide and Ratchet" from the moment they saw the Tow-Line mold. Finally, Chromia. I understand what they were going for. I think the obvious mistake is what totally ripped that one for me. Everything is purely my opinion. I don't want to get into the territory that "other" webboards are in. I am speaking only as myself and not for any group of people.

Its not the price that is bugging everyone, it is high but we all know that you can recoup the cost on ebay after the convention, it is just massivly lazy to have 2 repaints of a sucky mold in there and nothing really special to set it off and detract from the dross.  If they had shoved in an Alternator repaint as Cliffjumper or something we would all be going nuts and buying up several sets each for speculation purposes.

Poor, poor execution.

what utter crap. and according to the club e-mail they've barely sold half of the 800 sets. this won't help.

And after being finally displayed, the other half will not even sell, maybe at the OTFCC Online Outlet....

I was wondering about that too. Now that the 'cat is out of the bag', how many of those remaining sets will sell? I don't remember hearing about any exclusives being "left over" in the past.

Even though I like the set for a few reasons, I will agree that these figures could have been put out in Universe instead to allow people to get them that way.  Personally, I wasn't expecting 'shock and awe' exclusives this year.  Having heard about the Joe Convention and the exclusive offered there, I wasn't expecting anything super special for BotCon.

I wasn't saying the 'advisory panel knows best', I'm saying that people need to remember who is working with MC on these exclusives.  If you're going to to blame MC, make sure you blame the panel as well, because they're the ones that most likely came up with these exclusives.  I'm just saying you need to throw your complaints at the right people, not just the company that's forking over the $$$ for these.

My main point was that it doesn't matter to me who came up with this set. It should have been better either way. I'd say the same no matter who's idea it was. I wasn't expecting shock either, but I didn't expect a Buzzclaw or two.
