My question is, if you saw any of these figures in a Universe box at Target, would you get them? Ironhide - hell yeah. The others.... maybe that black Cyberjet but eh....

But see, that's my point. That's if they were AT TARGET. These aren't at Target. These are our "ONCE A YEAR" exclusives. Sure... most of us would pay $6-$25 or whatever to get these figures in a retail store. Figures NEED TO BE SPECIAL to sell as EXCLUSIVES. If they don't "wow" people, they don't sell. Just pure economics.

Getting a "wow" from the exclusives would lead to this response from the fandom:

"OMGWTFBBQ!!!! Why can't they make the current lines like that so we all can buy them!!! HASBRO SHOULD BURN!!!"

Or something to that effect.

better that than great regular toys and ugly baldy recolored exclusives

There's always someone who's going to be pissed about any decision Hasbro makes. It's like politics that way.

Personally, I think Hasbro should invest all of their FANSERVICING resources into these BotCon toys, since they *are* asking a lot of the fans. I don't think that's unfair. If that means that they're not widely available, then tough titties -- that's why they're exclusives.

It seems that most of the FANSERVICING resources are concentrated on the Alternators line...

Then why not make convention exclusive alts that would make the pricepoint better?

Now that I've had time to look around the fandom at reactions, I'd have to say that this year's "Master Collector first TF exclusive set" is getting a majority of negative reviews. Hardly anyone is impressed by any of the figures. It doesn't seem like people will be jumping through hoops to get this set, as they have in years past. It's kind of sad. It makes me really wonder who came up with this stuff.

The Ironhide and I'm guessing "attending exclusive" Ratchet are no brainers, so I don't give them any design points for those. This character is so obscure compared to the others they could have chosen. Fallback is ... ok, but the fact that they lost the name kind of sucks. Buzzclaw... anyway. We'll see what the rest of the figures will be, but at this rate, it doesn't look good.

I mean, don't get me wrong. The figures are not terrible. They just seem like they would be better suited as Universe figures. Exclusives should be something standout if they want people spending that kind of money. JMO of course. Then again, it would seem that my opinion is shared by the majority of my fellow Transfans. About the only thing I can say is, "get some Transfans to come up with the ideas." If that's what they did, they picked the wrong ones. :P

They are working on a short schedule too.  But it's also Master Collector.  They charge so they CAN make a profit and stay in business.  This fandom can't grasp that apparently, and if they do, they still try to find something to Starscream about.

It's funny, everyone was screaming for Hallit to lose the license and a lot were happy that MC got the license and we knew that prices WOULD change.  Now a lot of people are screaming that MC sucks ass and that they should "burn in bankcruptcy" (quoting a member at another board).  Atleast with these exclusives they all have plenty of articulation.  But color does matter, which is what made Sent Max something people wanted (even though he was a brick).

That's as may be. The fact is, the fans' first impression of these figures has been a resounding "meh". It's nothing to do with complaining or being whiny or whatever; the fact is that they're just not that impressive. You can't hide that. And for BotCon, the expectations are higher. Justifiably so, I might add. The odd thing is that the defensiveness level among those who are getting these figures is also higher because they're BotCon figures and they just HAVE TO be good. If not, there's an excuse that somehow makes it all right.

My question is, if you saw any of these figures in a Universe box at Target, would you get them? Ironhide - hell yeah. The others.... maybe that black Cyberjet but eh....

There's only 2 figures in this set so far that I wouldn't get if they were available at Target: Fallback and Buzzclaw.  I'd get the others.

Has MC put out any "WOW" exclusives for their GI Joe convention?
