ok, put aside the "He wrote most of them" reasoning for a minute and think about it: the comics are the only medium that explored the tf race in depth. they had a lot more backstory than the cartoons ever did. also, the idea of tf's being more or less genderless is more appealing than to fill the cartoons with fembot characters who will never get made into toys. granted, the toylines are starting to include more fembots but they're still rather scarce compaired to the males.

I disagree. I think the animation gave us a lot more backstory. We got to see Cybertron  in the present day and 4, 9, and 11 million years ago. We saw the Cybertronian race rise from Quintesson property to rebels, free Cybertronians, Transformers, onward to the first "modern" Decepticons and Autobots. We got specific origin stories for most of the new sub-groups that were introduced from 1985 onward. What do we know about the birth of Grimlock, Slag, Sludge, Snarl, and Swoop from the comics? In the cartoon, we know that they're Wheeljack and Ratchet's kids, built to equal in power the stronger Decepticons. That gives us a lot of insight into the natures of Wheeljack and the Dinobots that, as far as I know, was simply missing in the comics. How about the Insecticons? The fact that 3 out of the original 4 Scramble teams got origin stories?

Also, the animation lets us ignore the idea of aliens whose only purpose in life is to fold up into heads or guns for Transformers if we choose "Headmasters" over "The Rebirth".  :tflaugh That brings up another point - the animation showed that Transformers had colonized other star systems. We saw Antilla, Lithone (possibly), Junk, Charr, and Paradron, and Spherity & Toluin in the Sunbow cartoons, and the anime added Athenia, Master, the Clones' colony, Beast, V, Micros, the planet with Iron Town, and Zone. The "Masterforce" anime also had a way better story for the Pretenders than 15-foot-tall humans wandering around.

As far as fembots go, I think they're nifty. It makes the Transformers easier to relate to if they form pair bonds and have families, rather than all new Transformers, Autobot and Decepticon alike, being given life via Optimus Prime's chest. It's kind of disturbing for the hero of a toy comic to spend so much time shooting at his own offspring.

The Fembots are still genderless, they just apear feminin to make them more Marketable.

New transformers come from Vecter Sigma, the Matrix is just a Link to Victer Sigma.

Both has their pluses and minuses. Here are some I can think of:

G1 Marvel Comics

Pros - Great explaination to the background of  Pretenders, Powermasters, and Headmasters. Origin stories are nowhere as cheesy as its animation counterpart.

Cons - Too few origin stories, not enough chronology to add to the TF history. Autobot "Pretenders"/Decepticon Pretender Beasts being the size that they are.

G1 Animation:

Pros - Rich Transformers history, non-Decepticons/Autobots history (I love "Fight or Flee",) and some great concepts explained (i.e. Headmasters and Pretenders - albeit the latter being in Japanese.)

Cons - Cheesy origin stories, especially with the Technobots and the Combaticons. Poor continuity (how did Optimus Prime became whole again in "Return of Optimus Prime" after "Dark Awakening," where he was badly damaged/blown to bits?) Poor plots, and absurd characters (Wheelie and Grimlock, anyone?)

Thanks to Hirufumi-san we can explaine the Combaticons with the Transmutor from GIJoe

In the Marvel G1, the Matrix was a peice of kryptonite...  :eek

well, i know the rebirth had some bad  points, but it was one of the best animated episodes of all of them. But, which came first? The comic or the show? Plus, it had that awesome battle at the end
