Cybertron Megatron and Optimus Prime

Recommended Posts

P.S. anybody know how to resize a pic in photobucket? I obviously need to trim the pics down before I go on....

Thanks!

Resize the pic before you upload it to Photobucket, because the site only auto-resizes it if it's too big.  And beyond that, the only thing you can do is shrink it further, or rotate it.

Drak_Bloodhelm beat me to the Cybertron Optimus Prime rant, so here’s my Cybertron Megatron rant (I’ll flesh out the rest of the review later, for now, pictures

Robot

I really love how Megatron look in his robot mode. Somehow, for an evil leader, he looks really vibrant.

You surely dont need to flesh out that masterpiece do you? ;) I think Master Megatron is awesome yest just a little gaudy in the colourings.  I have been led to beleive this is because hasbro were going to have it as a continuation of energon and it was a `combination of unciron and megatron/galvatron` but Takara didnt.

Now I'm really pissed that my local ToysRUs was sold out of Prime's.  This one looks the best so far of the Armada/Energon/Cybertron Primes.

Yeah, I'm pissed too. :roll Don't make me Halo-pwn you for getting Cybertron before me. :P

Ok, so they merged Drak_Bloodhelm and my thread together. Cool. By the way, thanks for all your help, guys. Anyway, let's start all over with the review.

Since Drak_Bloodhelm beat me to the Cybertron Optimus Prime rant, this here’s my Cybertron Megatron rant:

Robot

First, I want to say that the alt mode for this line of Transformers is iffy. All the robot modes, however, rocks. Maybe this whole line is dedicated to making the robot mode look good above all else, I don't know.

I really love how Megatron look in his robot mode. Somehow, for an evil leader, he looks really vibrant. For me, I've always thought that Megatron is better designed than Optimus Prime for the most part, from G1 onto Beast Wars, and from RID to Energon (no comments on Beast Machine nor Machine Wars) and in Transformers: Cybertron, Megatron retains his regal and powerful appearance. His shoulder pads, arms, and torso is reminiscent of Unicron. Appropriate, since in the story, he had merged/put on the armor of Unicron. If you have an Armada Unicron (or Energon Unicron, for that matter, you'll see the resemblance - especially in the upper body.

His eyes has the light piping effect built into his head. What I like about this Megatron is that you can fold out two purple horns on top of his head that give him that appearance of power (horns are symbols of power in most cultures) which seems quit appropriate. If you don't like the horns, you can fold them down and it'll give you a more "level headed" Megatron closer to his tradition apperanace.

His upper body transformation reminds me of Energon Starscream, with the exception of his arms - the way it folds up sort of reminds me of G1 Decepticon Headmaster Fangry - how his tail is made from his robot arms. His jet nosecone is made of rubber and is rest on a series of hinges to form the tip of his jet mode. In robot mode, the rubber parts becomes arm guards. His arm joints are not ball joints (ratchets and universal joints,) offering a wide range of articulation.

His hips and knees are ratchet joints. Theoretically, you can get a lot of poses from this set up if it wer not for two things: Weak ankle joints and the rubber shin guards.

Cybertron Megatron is REALLY top heavy; his electronic gimmicks, unlike Cybertron Optimus Prime, are incorporated into his body (Optimus Prime has his in his two large weapons) plus, the car/jet kibbles hang from his back. The fact that his ankle joints are weak (they're on joints that are designed to fold into his spoiler in his land vehicle mode) makes this Megatron hard to balance.

His shin guards are made of rubber, but I'm not sure whether or not this attributes to them not staying put. I think the peg/hole tolerances on my Megatron are off.

His two (out of the three) gimmicks, the deployment of his rotary gun and the spine weapon, can be used here via inserting the "Cyber Planet" key.

Between Megatron's and Optimus Prime's robot modes, they are the same in looks, but Optimus Prime wins this time because of the massive arsenal he carries.

Land Vehicle

Really does invoke the Batmobile but the colour offsets this effect. Pretty long sucker, and heavy, too. I really like the dragster look of this mode. There's a small cockpit, an air dam in the front, a spoiler, and a thruster/missile launcher assembly that can be activated by plugging in the key. You can activate the aforementioned two gimmicks in this mode, but only the spine weapon have any "purpose" - it serves as a slashing weapon in land vehicle mode. You pop the gimmick for the gun and all it shows is the gun/wheel assembly. The thrusters pop out slightly and this gimmick is a disappointment to me.

Megatron is a race car, and Optimus Prime is a fire truck (I think). IMHO, Megatron has a more meaningful alt mode, though it's different from his past incarnation. This is a good thing because it seems like Optimus Prime is always stuck in being a truck of some sort, while Megatron had went from gun to tank to jet, and now, a race car.

Air Vehicle

This mode seems like an afterthought more than anything else. All you have to do is swing the front of the land vehicle to the side and hook them to the wheels (a la the rubber shin guards in robot mode.) Ok looking jet, I guess, certainly more convincing than Optimus Prime's wings on a brick mode.

CybertronMegatronJet.jpg

My only contention to Cybertron Megatron is that he's poorly armed. I knocked him down a notch solely for this reason. Had he been more armed (i.e. a huge fusion cannon, rail gun, or something,) than I would drop Optimus Prime and forget him like a bad dream. I'm hoping Megatron will have a figure he can combine with (maybe sort of  like the combination between E.O.P. and Wing Saber from Energon) - that would totally make this figure rock.

Nice review.  :thumb

Having to agree with you... as far as Megatron's go, this one lacks the serious firepower that the others had. G1 Megatron had a fusion cannon, Galvatron had a lazer cannon, BW megatron had either his tail-cannon/gun or his head-cannon. RID megatron had, hmm, swords, and... a gaint hand... Armada Megatron was a freaking tank! (Though not as nice as G2 megs imho) and Energon Megs had some cannons and looked boss.

Megatron LOOKS good, but, unfortuantely, Prime is armed a lot heavier than he is... which, well, personally, if someone should have the guns, it should be Megatron.
