I just got the complete series of G1 off ebay, and am about halfway through S2.  I've noticed that Prime isn't the hero I remember.  I thought his motto was "freedom is the right of all sentient beings," but he doesn't live that.

 

In the episode "changing gears," He considers leaving Gears' personallity corrupted just becuase the other autobots like him better that way. 

 

In "the core," he uses mind control devices to force Devestator to be good.

 

Those are the only two instances I've found so far.  What does anyone else think of this?  Are transformers not sentient, or is Optimus a fraud?

Poor writing. He's SUPPOSED to be the stand up for all freedom guy. I don't really remeber those episodes though. >.> When I watched them, it was like 6 episodes at a time. Also note that those two episodes are Season 2, which was rather inconsistant, last I remember. Had the characters occasionally acting funny and whatnot. That's what I noticed, anyway.

The Constructicons were originally Autobots, but Megatron reprogramed them... if you follow what Omega Supremes says.

...But in heavy metal war, Megs says he built them.

actually, i prefer the theory that the constructicons joined the decepticons of their own free will and optimus was f***ing with OS's memory.

The Constructicons were Netral Decerpticons, and MEgatron made them fulol fleged cons. The fleed to earth(wich was discovered by Starscream and Skyfire in that eara) with Omega Supream following. The Constructicons were heavaly Damaged, and Megs REbuilt them on earth.

Warpath is a tank, but he's an autobot.

The problem with the Constructicons is that in the G1 cartoon there are 3 different origins.

 

S1 Megatron built them

S2 They were Autobots reprogramed by Megatron

S3 They are seen building Megatron
