I charge the extra fees for credit card payments because I don't feel like paying that 2.9% + $0.55 every time somebody owe me money.

PayPal is a cost of doing business...that should be incurred by the seller.  You don't see 9.99 + Tax + Credit Card Machine Rental Charges at any "real life" store.  That cost is hidden in the price of the item, naturally.  Its a mental thing tho...if I see Galvatron for $10 + shipping and PayPal fees...or one for $12 plus shipping....I'll get the $12 cuz it pisses me off that I can visibly see a seller charging me for THEIR cost of business.  It's cheap and lame.

False. There are SEVERAL places where they charge you extra for using your debit card if the amount isn't sufficient. And add to the fact that Paypal won't do a damn thing when you get scammed... I'm not going to give my hard earned money to those scammers.

Anyways, I try to refuse credit card payments to avoid those fees. ONly from paypal balance or debit, if not, look elsewhere. SO far, I only accepted a credit card payment once, and that was today.

It would simply be easier to just have two accounts the free one with the $500/month limit and one just to accept credit cards where you can decide if you want to eat the cc costs or not.

Waa waa, piss and moan, piss and moan. :roll

So many people want to whine and complain about a dollar here and two dollars there... "Waa, shipping is too high...  Waa, they charged me a fee to accept credit cards... Waa, this seller wants to charge me $2 to use Paypal..."

Am I really the only one who can see how petty this whole argument is?

Well, $1 here and $2 there and you quickly get some good amounts of money. Maybe you have money to throw out the window, I don't.

No, I don't have money to "throw out the window"... but the fact of the matter is simple.  If you, as a seller, decide to accept Paypal payments, then in the act of accepting thier service, you also accept thier fee structure, along with all of thier other policies.  Paypal charges the SELLER a fee for accepting credit card payments, not the BUYER.  If you don't agree with that policy, then you shouldn't accept Paypal.  IMO, you have three options... accept Paypal and pay thier fees, take credit cards using a different service such as Bidpay or your own bank if they offer such a thing, or just don't take credit card payments.  Seriously, it's like buying something at the store and expecting the clerk to cover the sales tax.  These are the rules set forth by the service when you sign up, they're not an option.  I'm sorry if I find it riddiculous and annoying that people want to use the Paypal service, but don't want to pay for the convenience.

Does anybody remember back when it used to cost more for gas if you were using a credit card?  You know why?  Because the credit card companies charge the merchants a fee to accept credit card payments.  What happened?  They tried passing that fee on to the consumers, and look at the result... it got outlawed.  (In Virginia anyway, I can't speak for the rest of the country... but the principle is sound regardless.)  Bottom line is that if you CHOOSE to accept credit card payments, then you should by right be willing to pay the cost of doing so.  If not, then don't take them.  Don't charge the seller because you're a cheapskate.  Or, at the least, just raise your overall price a slight bit to make up the difference, and if they pay a different way, you make a buck or two MORE.

Your example doesn't work. Some stores DO charge the consumer for using a debit card btw.

Yes indeed they do charge at some places.

Here's a question. If the seller takes a hit on fees (let's say they sell an item at cost, plus shipping) and they end up losing money on the deal...why on Earth would they continue selling? seriously?

Realistically, it just doesn't work that way. It would be nice, but no.

Doesn't make it good business practice.

If someone sells for cost plus shipping and loses money on the deal, then it's thier own fault.  Why would you bother selling something for cost anyway, except to do someone a favor?  In which case, I would assume that the person wouldn't mind paying the Paypal fees, as that would be considered part of "cost".  But, if you're making a profit on something, you should mark up your price enough to cover any fees you may or may not incur by accepting credit cards, or just don't take credit cards.  Don't be a whiny little kid and charge a separate "Paypal" fee.  Just figure it in when deciding your price, and it's all good.  That's all I'm saying.

I have purchased things for much lest than cost from a tfan member he took atleast a $100 hit just so I could get my item we do business he helps me I do the same.
