Energon Combaticon Tech Specs

Recommended Posts

Got in D3 and D4 and I am really liking the Energon Combaticons. Nice alt modes, cool colors and neat Transformations. Plus they actually have decent Energon Weapons. :thumb

Sadly Hasbro has not provided us with Tech Specs for them which is a real shame. So I thought I should write them myself. I tried to emulate the style from Dreamwave's "More Than Meets The Eye Books". One bio is even written as a evaluation report from Barricade.

I tried to create a diverse set of characters and think I succeeded nicely. Kickback is a little weird but G1 was filled with weird Transformers so why not Energon as well. :thumb Where possible I tried to adjust the character to the color or name of the Transformers.

I also gave them values but do note that for me 6 is average so 7 is above average. 8 means really strong and 9 immensely strong. So one should not really compare these to the rest of the tech specs. (Especially not Kicker's who has "Strength 6". :wtf

Well, I hope you like them. Let me know what you think and whether you have a favorite. :thumb

Energon Combaticons Tech Specs

D1 Stormcloud

Function: Diversionist/Kamikaze pilot.

“Banzai!

Bio: A maniacal flyer inspirated by the Kamikaze pilots Japan used during World War 2 though he has no direct death-wish. Lives for the risk and only the risk. Even painted himself orange and gave himself the ability to turn his engine’s muffler off so that everyone would see and hear him.

Barricade knows this is a weakness but recruited him because he could use a Kamikaze pilot for dangerous missions. Strormcloud is also an excellent diversion with his loud crazy ranting drawing Autobot attention away from the rest of the team. Often Barricade will use Stromcloud to distract the Autobots while moving in close range to kill them.

On stealth missions it is difficult to keep subject silent but it is possible. And when Stormcloud has been silent for a long time he gets the urgue to pull off a huge stunt for the time missed. Fortunately that is just when the battle starts so he usually gets what he wants.

Stormcloud is a flamboyant bot who in his “off hours continously tries new stunts or learns new moves. He likes skywriting and when he is in a particularly daring mood he will fly over Autobot headquarters and write something like “Decepticons rule. or “Who is your daddy now? whilst being attacked by gun batteries and Autobots.

All Decepticons think he is nuts but they all give Stormcloud a huge applause when he has finished another piece of sky graffiti. Needless to say, he is well liked and admired though few would want to be his wing man.

Abilities: Subject has average strength with average intelligence. Has an above average resitance to damage which is useful in his line of work.

Stormcloud is is very maneuverable and fast making him an excellent flyer, perhaps one of the best Decepticon flyers ever. Stormcloud also dares to take huge risks which helps when pulling off manouvers and stunts. He carries a smoke generator which exhumes organge smoke which he uses for skywriting.

He uses the same main weapons as Blackout. 2 Energon cannons for ground targets and 2 Energon machine guns for flying targets.  Below that a grenade launcher which can also fire delayed charges.

While Blackout uses this to target airbourne targets, Stormcloud uses these for his stunts, creating an explosion and flying though it at the right time. Skill or perhaps luck has kept him from damaging himself during these stunts.

The Energon weapons provide subject with plenty of firepower but they dissapear after awhile, leaving subject defenseless. He can also use these weapons in robot mode.

With the other Combaticons Stormcloud combines into Bruticus.

Weakness: His recklessness has caused him to be damaged on a few occasions and could get him killed. (Though he would not mind dying whilst performing a stunt or attack.) His inability to be stealthy continously is also a liability but he can shut up if he really has too.

Even then he has been known to have forgotten to shut his muffler off so that when the  team carefully ambushed a group of Autobot’s he would accidenally warn them and ruining the whole plan. Needless to say is orange color makes him stand out more as a target in most environments.

D2 Blight

Function: Bringer Of Death

“To touch me is to die!

Bio: Years ago Blight took part in an experiment devised by a crazy Decepticon scientist who argued that Transformers would be more effective if they could kill organic life just by touching it. Blight was his first and only test subject because the experiment caused a huge explosion in which he was killed.

Somehow Blight survived and it was on his first mission to an organic world that he discovered that the treatment had worked. Anything organic that he touched would immediately die creating a trail of dead life in Blight’s wake.

When Barricade learned of this, he immediately recruited Blight to be part of his new commando team. Knowing how useful Blight’s power would be he opted to have Blight function as the hand of Bruticus. Now he too would possess the “Touch Of Death. as Blight called his gift.

Blight is a gruff and stoic bot who barely speaks or socially interacts with others. Most of them (aside from his team mates) avoid him like the plague because they fear his powers may also work on them. Blight is only happy when he gets to kill organic creatures for fun.

Abilities: Blight is very strong with exceptional resistance to damage. He is not very intelligent. As mentioned before he has the power to kill all organic life he touches making nearly him unstoppable on organic worlds if there are no Autobots to oppose him.

He uses a standard Energon cannon that his fellow Combaticon Kickback uses. It is quite powerful but as with all Energon weapons it depletes its energy quickly before dissapearing.  His guns fire a chemical compound that has the same effect as Blight himself as and he uses it for long range organic targets. The weapon is also usable in robot mode.

With the other Combaticons Blight combines into Bruticus.

Weaknesses: Because of his ability to kill organic life on impact Blight’s power usage is quite high so he needs to recharge often on organic worlds. On Cybertron he does not suffer from the energy drain but his main ability and most of his weapons are useless. On organic worlds he is also extremely easy to track and find making him a huge liability on (stealth) missions. The Autobots are also desperate to take him in because of his high “body count Blight is not allowed to leave the base when not on a mission.

He is alone his inability to improvise or even think properly is also a huge problem. But that is compensated for since he is hardly alone and orders therefor are always given.

D3 Blackout

Function: Flying Ninja

“In darkness I strike and you will never notice I am here unless you are my target.

Bio: Blackout is the complete opposite of Stormcloud, both in colors and personality. He is extremely proud to be in the Decepticon army (and especially the Combaticons) so he chose purple as his main color to let everyone know whose side he was on.

And unlike Stormcloud who is loud and boisterous, Blackout is quiet radiating an eerie professialism. He has seen a documentary about Ninja’s once and was impressed so he began copying their techniques. This has made him Barricade’s favorite for stealth missions as well as overall favorite.

Blackout does not really care as he just wants to serve the Deceptions as best as he can. He is bothered by the fact that Stormcloud is a better flyer but would never let anyone notice that.

Abilities: Subject has average strength with below average resistance to damage. His high intelligence and skill usually keep him from being damaged at all while he is on a stealth mission.

Allthough Blackout is not a good a flyer as Stormcloud he is much better at scouting missions or other missions involving stealth. His engine has a muffler that reduces the sound of his rotors greatly. Stormcloud has the same muffler but rarely uses it.

Subject is very cabable of sneaking up on a target and destroying it. He has even been known to sneak into or near an Autobot base to create havoc there and escape undetected. It is rumored that Blackout has some sort of cloaking technology. When pursued he usually uses his smoke generator to create a huge cloud and when it settles, he is always gone.

Subject uses the same main weapons as Stormcloud. 2 Energon cannons for ground targets and 2 Energon machine guns for flying targets.  Below that a grenade launcher which can also fire delayed charges. Blackout has learned to use them in the air to such a degree that he can destoy almost any flying target with it.

The Energon weapons provide subject with plenty of firepower but they dissapear after awhile, leaving subject defenseless. Subject can also utilize weapons in robot mode. Blackout is also a decent hand to hand fighter specializing in Ninja techniques.

With the other Combaticons Blackout combines into Bruticus.

Weaknesses: In stealth situations subject is at his best and though he can hold his own in a combat situation his lower resistance to damage is bit of a liability.

D4 Kickback

Function: Ground Assault

“It’s clobberin time, Baby.

Team assessment Datatracks: Barricade, Combaticon Commander.

Bio: When I recruited Kickback he was just an ordinary Transformer who possessed a lot of strenght, firepower and endurance. Which was just why I choose him, my team needed a powerhouse. He was the perfect trooper, obiedient and quiet.

But all that changed once we got to Earth. Whereas I developed an interest in the planet’s military culture (for pathetic fleshbags they sure have a violent history), Kickback has developed other interests of a less admirable quality.

First off, he was impressed by that fleshbag the humans call Arnold Schwarzenegger who was a movie called “The Terminator about a nearly unstoppable cyborg. Kickback became mesmarized by this fictional character and began emulating him as well as a fictional character he refers to as “The Thing from a group called the “Fantastic Four.

I briefly looked into those characters to know what to expect and basically Kickback now thinks he is indesctructible and that no one can stop him. He will also make useless jokes during combat or what are known as “punch lines. He can frequently be heard saying the words “Hasta La Vista Baby in a weird accent.

Fortunately whenever he says that, he blasts an Autobot to the scrap pile so it is not all bad. Still I recommend limiting Kickbacks access (and for all the other Decepticons for that matter) to Earthen culture. Who knows what else can happen?

Abilities: Kickback is extremely strong with a legendary resistance to damage. He has average intelligence but is easily influenced by other cultures so it would seem.

Subject transforms into a powerful battle tank in which uses a standard Energon cannon that his fellow Combaticon Blight uses. It is quite powerful but as with all Energon weapons it depletes its energy quickly before dissapearing.

Kickback like Blight also has 2 other weapons which too have suffered because of the influence of this “Terminator. They have been modified to feature a recoil and reload system similar to that of an Earth shotgun. The results are impressive so I have allowed Kickback this modification.

And if his ammo runs out completely then he can always resume to using his fists and bare strenght in combat which work well in close quarters. Sadly Kickback is more of a brawler than an effective fighter. Usually when he goes hand to hand he has to shout “It’s clobberin time!, alerting enemies his ammo has run out. I have yet to get him to give up this habit.

With the other Combaticons and myself Kickback combines into Bruticus.

Weaknesses: Because of the fact that Kickback thinks he is indescructible, he will not even dodge shots directed at him. He can take a massive amount of damage so he has always escaped but one of these days I fear it will get him killed. Additional him shouting “It’s clobberin time!, lets enemies know that if they keep their distance, they are safe.

D5 Barricade

Function: Combaticon Leader

“A team is only as good as its leader. That is why I have to be the best!

Bio: Years ago Barricade was asked to become leader of a new commando team which would have to deal with the more dangerous missions. Barricade agreed on 2 terms. 1- He was allowed to choose the men for his new team. 2- The team would be retrofitted to form a super Deception under his command.

The Decepticon high-command agreed and Barricade selected 4 Decepticons for his team. They make an odd group indeed but Barricade is an excellent leader and tactician and manages to maximize the strong points of his team while minimizing their weaknesses for optimum results.

Barricade is one of the older Decepticon veterans and lives for battle. Everything he does is dedicated to war. In his “spare time he either practices new battle moves, tactics or tries out new weapons. When he is unable to do so (either because he is damaged or because the training room is damaged/occupied) then he will study war journals to learn from them.

It is though Earth war Journals that he learned of Erwin Rommel, a famous World War 2 military leader. Barricade was so impressed that he began copying Rommel in certain ways. Like Rommel, Barricade cares about his troops and is even willing to take a hit for them if need be. He also has the same quarters and living conditions, putting aside all luxuries his higher rank entitles him to.

Despite that Barricade is also a tough leader who drills his troops constantly and demands nothing but perfection. He does listen to his troops whenever possible and realizes that he must not force them to be precisely how he wants them. Thus he tolerates Stormclouds stunts and antics and Kickback’s strange idolizations when not on a mission.

This has not only earned the respect of his fellow Combaticons but they also admire him a great deal and are fiercely loyal to him. If Barricade would ever try to overthrow Galvatron then his followers would follow him without question even though it would mean certain death.

But mutiny is an alien comcept to Barricade and he would never accept a mission if he was not certain if all Combaticons would make it back. He once refused to accept a mission saying it was too dangerous. Galvatron was furious but in the end relented.

This did not quell their good relationship though, Galvatron only gained more respect for Barricade because he stood up for his men when they needed him.

Abilities: Barricade has great stength, intelligence and resistance to damge. Subject is one of the best platoon commanders in the Decepticon army. Barricade is an excellent long-range and short range planner as well as having an instinct for knowing what to do and when to do it.

His extensive knowledge of historical databases gives him the insight many commanders do not have. He has info on every battle fought on Cybetron or Earth and on many other planets. Within seconds he can compare the battle plan the enemy is using to his database and see if it was ever used before. If the counter attack was successful he will use that. If the counter attack did not work or if there is not historical precedent then he will quickly come up with his own battle plan.

Next to the historical database, Barricade also has a database of most of the hand-to-hand combat sports which he uses with great effect. Sadly his design limits some of his options but he is still a very efficient hand to hand fighter. Subject also has a great insight in predicting what actions his opponent will take and countering them immediately.

Barricade normally does not use any Energon weapons, instead preferring to rely on his own skill. But he can borrow the weapons from anyone of the Combaticons. His truck mode is armed with destructive long range missiles. Often he sends out Blackout to localize the enemy so that he can blast them to pieces or damage them from a distance.

Barricade has great courage but he would never risk his men if there is a safer way. He fully realized that he will die in battle but his moment will not come before he and his team have racked up an impressive amount of Autobot corpses.

With the other Combaticons Barricade combines into Bruticus.

Weaknesses: Subject exhibits no known physical weaknesses.

Strength: 8

Intelligence: 9

Speed: 5

Endurance: 8

Rank: 9

Courage: 10

Fireblast: 9

Bruticus

Function Super Warrior

“I am like a watch, 5 different parts to form a well oiled machine. And we are the machine that says: Time’s up Autobots.

Bio: Bruticus resulted as one of the demans from Barricade who wanted his new crew to form a super robot with him. But unlike previous experiments where the minds of the 5 components were merged, which led to somewhat unstable combinations, Barricade wanted to be in control himself.

The Decepticon high-command gave in because they desperately needed a powerful superwarrior with a keep tactical intellect and since Barricade was as loyal to the Decepticon cause as they came. So Bruticus would never rebel against them.

This led to the first combiner formed by all five Combaticons but controlled by just one: Barricade. One would think that gives him access to all of the combaticons abilities but it also has its limitations. Bruticus is very slow due to his large bulk and cannot react as fast as he would like. But Barricade realizes that Bruticus is an immense tactical asset and he is going to use it as best as he can.

Abilities: Bruticus is immensely strong with exceptional resistance to damage though this varies per body section. Since Barricade is in control Bruticus is a smart and resourceful as he is.

Each of the Combaticons can form an arm or lef of Bruticus so several configurations are possible. But Barricade has one absolute favorite. Since Blight and Kickback can take huge amounts of damage, he usually chooses them for the arms leaving the weaker armoreed (and therefor more vunerable) Blackout and Strormcloud to form the legs.

This also has the effect of giving Bruticus one arm with incredible strength. And the arm that is formed by Blight has the ability to kill all organic life. “The Touch Of Death is one of Bruticus’ favorite weapons as he loves seeing organics die in agony. In this configuration Bruticus can also use the tank cannons of Blight and Kickback.

Naturally Bruticus also has access to the smoke generators in Blackout and Stormcloud as well as all the Energon weapons.

Weaknesses:

Bruticus is exremely powerful but highly fuel consuming. Since his hand and feet are comprised of Energon his endurance is limited to just a few minutes. So Barricade will only use Bruticus as a last restort or is an power source is nearby and secured.

Thanks for the reply but it does not make much sense to me.

And Brawl is the Japanese name while I go by the US names for these toys. Despite oddly named at times.

The Japanese idea that the 4 smaller Transformers are mere drones just does not suit me. It suited the Japanese though, less characters to create a personality for. Sadly we will probably never know how Furman or Mick would have handled them.  :tfsad

Probably the way they handled Tidalwave, and Sideways in armada :roll

  • Author

Well, I rather like the way Tidal Wave was handled with Ramjet having rescued him and now secretly whispering things in his ear.

But the way he was handled in Armada was pretty good too. A Transformer that big does not need much brains. Energon Mirage is badly handled in the show though. He Transforms into a speedy powerboat of some sort.

Not the type of vehicle suited to a powerhouse like Tidal Wave. From a commerical viewpoint it also makes more sense to introduce repaints as new characters (as they did with Sixshot) because a new character would generally sell a little better than a repaint,

But generally the characterizations in Energon were rather poor. Most Transformers did not have a very distinct personality. And that just happens to be the keypoints of G1 and Beast Wars, very diverse characters each with their own personality traits and trademarks.

Well, I rather like the way Tidal Wave was handled with Ramjet having rescued him and now secretly whispering things in his ear.

Tidal Wave was in 1 panel, it was almoast a camio :roll

His bio was covered in More Than Meets The Eye so that was enough for me.  :tftongue

I really liked that series and hoped the Energon series had also been released.
