the fact of the matter is that unicron is the ONLY tf big bad that is easily recognised by the average american audience. i doubt anyone outside the fandom would have heard of Dark Nova or Mjolnir.

Nobody outside the fandom recognizes Unicron either.

 

And really, whether Unicron is known or not doesn't matter.  Does Lex Luthor's fame stop the writers of Superman comics from coming up with new villains?

Seriously, new villains'd be nice. Or, hell, they could just use an old name but have the character be completely different. Not like E-Ironhide, but kinda like what they did in BW...you know, Inferno was a fire ant instead of a fire engine. Stuff like that. Reinvent characters, use the old names but make them fresh. Or make up new names that're spins on old names.

Bludgeon was cool.  Not OMFG HE HAS TO BE IN THE MOVIE cool, but kinda cool.

 

I would really like to see the writers of the movie (and the next series for that matter) try to deviate as far as possible from the Unicron, Megatron-->Galvatron, dead Optimus formula.  That way, even if it's crap, at least it's DIFFERENT crap.
