Who needs a blacksmith when you are an Autobot scientist?  They have the raw

materials, they can make their own tools.  If they can create the Aeiralbots without

buying anything It's safe to say they can make a screwdriver on their own. Remember, they are a far more advanced civilization than humans.

Money was never brought up at any real time in any TF series, from what I recall. I'm assuming they either don't use it or they trade things -- a barter system. That'd make sense, since the only real substance they need is Energon. I imagine they'd mostly be traders, and Decepticons would just steal things instead of paying anything for it.

There was one scene in Legacy of Unicron where Rodimus Prime had a chest of gold or something to pay off Death's Head.

The Decepticons wouldn't steal things during Peace time.

In the tv series, they never bought anything.  They recycled, such as the old

shuttles they used as raw materiels for the Aerialbots.

Generally, on Cybertron there was no currency. The only time they had to use currency was when they needed to buy things from other species, and had nothing to trade. See the US comics for info on that, especially when Darkwing and Dreadwind showed up on that space station.

 

Not sure if it was explained at all in the cartoon. There was one episode in which Galvatron "paid" that assassin to kill Octane, but I forget what he paid him in.
