Poker player patented Optimus Prime?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I have been visiting this forum for months and finally time I registered.

So im watching the Heads-Up Poker Championship on CNBC just now and they talk about this poker legend Henry Orenstein. And they mentioned his patents, inventions, etc... including Transformers and Optimus Prime!

I did a quick search on google and found some conformation to this weird story http://www.pplayer.com/2005/04/28/henry-orenstein-genius/.

So the site says he was somehow involved with the G1 prime.

As far as i know takara invented the toys and they were under the name diaclone (or something like that).

thats pretty interesting.. welcome abord btw :thumb

Optimus Prime was part of the diaclone line as Convoy. I doubt he helped design it. Maybe he was involved with Marvel's writting of his bio?

Yeah he could have been working for Hasbro at the time when they were developing the concept for the toy line. But I seriously doubt that you could give any one person sole credit for inventing the Transformers...

After a Google search and some reading .... Interesting guy.

Here's the relevant info that I found ....

Decades later, in 1983, Orenstein convinced the Hasbro toy company to begin manufacturing Transformers -- action figures that morph from wheeled vehicles into robots. Today, he says, they are among the two or three best-selling boys' items of all time.

That came from this article.

So basically 'invented' may not be the best word for it...

welcome to the boards

wow ive allways wondered who came up with the idea to take the japanese robots and come up with transformers

I dunno having a world poker champion or w/e make up optimus prime is pretty far fetched. They dont strike me as people of enough intellict to come up with optimus.

very interesting. what a strange situation. Looks like looking deeper into this would last for seven more pages.

Perhaps he is AA`s mentor and taught him everthing he knew about trying to lay claim to everything that existed ;)
