Lighting Beast Machines Darkest Hour

I agree about the 300 years thing. I know that Skir at least always saw BM as taking place looooong after G1 and even BW.

And technically speaking, a "deus ex machina" is something that comes in at the last minute out of nowhere in a WTF-ish to save the day. (see "Eagles" in The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings.) Megatron's virus was all a setup to the BM story.

well, ok. i guess the more accurate term would be a "plot device".

The Maximal Council of Elders had it most likely, since they're the leading body of Cybertron (or atleast the Maxies.)

good call :thumb (and yes they do rule the Predacons too - hence BW Megs' resentment)

I think they lead the Maximals more than they do the Predacons.  BW Megs seemed to hate the fact that the Tripredacus Council 'still kisses the skidplates of the Maximal Elders' or something to that effect.  The Predacons are probably in no position to really stand up against the Elders, so they inevitably give in to the demands/rules/laws of the Elders.

But since the Maximal Council of Elders most likely had the Matrix, when Megatron came and unleashed his awesome virus upon the planet, no one was left to get the Matrix and open it, assuming the Matrix would even open for said 'bot.  I don't believe Rodimus to be leader in the Beast Era.

Well right -- the Maximals rule the Predacons. It's just that the two sides see the Pax Cybertronia a bit differently.

I don't believe Rodimus to be the leader in the Beast Era either, since Optimus Prime was the leader at the end of G1. :P

I know some people have a problem with the whole idea of Megatron's virus, but to me it doesn't matter. For instance, I'm not going to go see Lord of the Rings and be like "WTF how come Sauron could make this ring that controlled people and stuff?" You simply have to accept it as part of the premise.

again, all this arguing over the status of the matrix in BM is futile. the simple fact of the matter is that mainframe didn't have the money or resources to make generic tf's so they told the writers to find some way to incapaciate the entire population of cybertron.

And you know this for a fact?

I agree with you on the Pax Cybertronia deal, I forgot about the two sides seeing the treaty differently (brain fart)

I like to believe that Optimus is no longer alive or is considering 'missing', same with Megatron (ie, they left after peace was made and went to roam the Galaxy).  Rodimus on the other hand, may still be around but may have given up leadership a long time ago.  He could be one of the very last Autobots to still be alive since they all either A) went through with the Maximal upgrade B) left Cybertron OR C) kept their form and identity and remained on Cybertron until they 'died'.

I'll say that the Autobots still had the matrix, and that after the maximals had overrun cybertron, they got tired of stepping in and driving over maximal poo everywhere they went, so all the Autobots left taking the Matrix with them.

Autobots = Maximals

I'm sure they were all long dead by the time BW came along.... After all, remember that BW episode where Starscream takes over Waspinator and no one has any idea that he was really a traitor? G1 must have been ancient history for the Preds to be so clueless.
