Cmon folks...do we really want the movie to be tied THAT close to a show where writers deemed it possible to DRIVE TO AFRICA from the US?

Let's not forget the whole "drive to the North Pole in order to hitch a ride to South America" thing. :thumb

But yes, point taken. That's one reason why I find all this angst a bit silly. It's a frickin' cartoon. No one except us even cares about this right now. Don's job is to make sure that average people *do* care about the movie, and the way to do that is NOT to get stuck in irrelevant details like Prime's faceplate and mass change and all the other blah.

as you will recall, i posted many a "STFU and be glad your getting a movie" posts, but after comments like "Picture what you want, then throw it out the window" (paraphrased :D)  I have to admit i'm thinking about buying a ticket on the "This move will be for everyone except the people who really care" train.

The discussions seem to center more about what is being sacrifised to make this a mass market movie, than what is being saved and the reason for that is because as far as i can tell here is what is in the new movie that has anything to do with what TFs are;

1. Transforming robots

2. cybertron

3. Prime and MEgatron

... that's it

It should have never even been discussed whether or not Prime has a face plate.

It should have never been discussed whether or not TFs would be the stars of this film.

I think the title should be, "Spike and Sparkplug: and some alien robots" because that's what it sounds like we are getting (assuming they "decide" to use the names of characters that we give a Blot about :roll

You can't make gun toys... good megs as a gun sucked

Mass shifting is too hard to explain - i agree

but mass shifing is now okay :wtf ???

Hasbro's the one pushing for mass change.... who knows why. Perhaps they're a bit more on the side of the fans than all the whiny fanboy bitches would like to believe.

Either way, I would like to see Dreamworks get their way and totally reimagine the franchise. Why not? I've had enough G1 retreads - I don't need a live-action one to add to that list.

Too many people are treating this like it's going to be their personal TF fantasy, and it's just not going to be that. Be open-minded and you will save yourself a lot of stress.

Then why bother... if i want new transformers i can turn to cartoon network.  If i want a "reimagined" universe i'll start buying power ranger and gundams.  As i have said before, there comes a point of redefining something when it ceases to be reinvented and becomes created (totally different).  This franchise needs to decide on one F'n story line and stick to it.

Well you're raising a bunch of different issues there... "Why bother?" I think there's plenty of reasons why they should bother. For one, it'll be a big-budget live-action Transformers movie. I think that's pretty sweet. Secondly, sweet sweet merchandise.... Third, if all goes well we may see a comeback to the TF cartoon like what happened in the 90's with Batman.

We may differ on this point, but I don't see Armada/Energon/Cybertron as "new" Transformers as much as "variations on the G1 theme". It's been said before, but it's always the same premise with the same bla bla bla. And it's not even that well done.

This is also somewhat subjective, but I guess I just don't interpret "reimagining" in such an X-TREME manner as you do. To me, "reimagining" just means shaking free of the G1 chains so the movie can be its best.

I agree with you that there is a core to every franchise that defines what it "is"... but we don't know nearly enough about the movie yet to make any sort of judgment call about whether or not this movie will retain the core of the Transformers brand. Heck, I don't think you could get people to agree on what the core of Transformers even is.

"This franchise needs to decide on one F'n story line and stick to it." I could not agree more. You can thank RiD, Armada, Energon and Cybertron for pooching that.

Agreed. We don't know nearly enough to even start thinking this film is going to be a failure.

It should have never even been discussed whether or not Prime has a face plate.

It should have never been discussed whether or not TFs would be the stars of this film.

You know who asked both those questions?

You know who started the discussions on both?

Here's a clue.

It wasn't Don.

It wasn't anyone in the production team.

The movie is at that "everything can still change" stage.

Don was asked about the faceplate.

His reply was pretty much "everything can still change."

NOTHING is set in stone at this stage in the game, Don's just acknowledging that.

So any question like "please tell us that X is definately X" is gonna get the response that it could still change, even things people think are simple.

Odds are they won't, Prime will have a faceplate etc etc, but it's foolish to expect a CERTAIN yes or no to any question at this stage unless it's framed with the previso that it could all still change.

Aall I can say is that I will be watching this movie when it comes out in Japan.

And in Japan, they sell lots of "Japan only" movie related merchandising at the cinema..even to western movies.

Anyone fancy some ebay purchases?

Geh, I don't even know why I bothered commenting here...all I did was add fuel to the fire. Look, I understand this movie isn't going to make all of us cream in our pants over every single scene (pardon the crudeness). I'd like more than anything for it to be a fanboy's dream flick, but that won't happen. I understand that. But no matter how much Murphy tries to reach out to the fans, will he do things like, um...include Bludgeon in the film?

Yes yes, I know it's become the big joke of DM's involvement, but it's the truth. Much as I want Megs to be a gun and Soundwave to be a Walkman, I know it won't happen. Fine, I'll go watch my G1 DVDs if I want to see that that bad. I don't approve of seemingly random changes (Energon-ish Arcee, and now Soundwave as a chopper? Who TF allowed THOSE decisions to be made?) This movie won't be every last fanboy's wish come true. Chances are, it'll start nasty wars within the fandom, and especially within this site. I really don't want things to go that far, since most people on this site seem to get along with one another, and I respect most of them (except for MH-knows-who).

But like everyone else, my ass will be in a megaplex theater seat come opening night. Truth is, I'm far more pumped over the TF movie than any other fanboy dream flicks coming out (like Episode III and the rumored Eva flick that, um...yeah, that's gonna come out in a gazillion years). I'm glad to be getting a live-action film based on TFs, yes, and though I don't agree with the way Murphy is handling some aspects (like hosting a message board full of whiny, bitchy, immature dorks who remind me more of the fellows on Game FAQs than anything else), I'll put my faith in the other people behind the whole thing and hope it turns out well, even though I'm sure the movie won't be perfect in my eyes.

Sorry for setting off any fires with my earlier comments.
