Waspinator's Trashing

Recommended Posts

I think you're analyzing it a bit too much. This was the same show that had TM2 Dinobot literally shredding Waspinator.... Waspy also got PANCAKE'D by Optimal Optimus' hands.... so I wouldn't sweat the extreme realism if I were you.

Well in that case, screw Starscream's Spark. the real reason is because it's a cartoon. All the fun straight in the toilet

I don't buy the Starscream's spark thing anyway. Starscream "possessed" Waspinator (i.e. took over his consciousness), which is not what happened to Primal and Megs when they "merged" their sparks with Prime and Megatron, respectively. Primal and BW Megs remained who they were.

I just don't get why we're not allowed to say "it was a fun kids' cartoon and they had goofy visual gags sometimes."

I don't tend to go for the overanalysis that fans often subscribe to the shows.  He was the comic relief, it was meant to be slapstick and rediculous, I think it's about as simple as that.

I guess your theory could hold some water, but that kind of thing isn't my stick so much.

Stragely enough, not only did he survive Beast Wars, but Beast Machines too. He survived 76 episodes!

:D

I think its all the CR Bath, Perhaps it is much more powerful than the Maximals CR Chamber.

While I was watching the show I realized that it was goofy slapstick. Some stuff I thought was over the top though like the previously mentioned, Waspinator getting sliced to ribbons, but for the sake of this thread and other thread like it, it still fun to hear where other peoples imagination can take something so nonserious.

Yup, your avatar's still cracking me up. :lol

I don't mean to get down on fun retcon-y stuff. I guess I'm just reacting to the people who are like IT MUST BE THIS WAY BECAUSE TRANSFORMERS HAS TO BE A SERIOUS SHOW THAT MAKES PERFECT SENSE ON EVERY LEVEL OR ELSE I WILL BE FORCED TO REALIZE THAT IT'S REALLY FOR KIDS AND MY WORLD WILL FALL APART!! So, sorry for being the "meh-sayer". :tfgrin

To explain myself why he always survived, I had this theory that predators could take much damage than maximal, but that would make their mind less reliable. A sort of stronger Spark but much less reliable.

Yup, your avatar's still cracking me up. :lol

I think that part of the reason is because Transformers are part of the '80s rebirth craze, and who was alive and keeping those ships afloat during that decade? Guys like us, most of whom are now in our 20s-30s. We aged but the basic product didn't. But a lot of the other revived '80s licenses did--a prime example would be Thundercats. It was on the Vertigo imprint (same as Sandman, 100 Bullets and Preacher) and the second arc "The Return" really screwed with the characters. Mumm-Ra enslaved the entire planet in Lion-O's absence, killed several generic Thundercats and imprisoned the "name" characters, and on top of all that he aged the Thunderkittens to be his slaves--meaning you got to see Wilykit in what amounts to strategically-placed bits of cloth (Ick). On top of all that, it's also implied that Jackalman and the other Mutants raped Cheetara or at the very least did something unsavory to her--Hell, she's chained to a pole with her costume in shreds in one issue. All said, it was really weird to read a Thundercats arc that dark and violent.

Most times people expect the license to grow and expand to encompass everyone. G.I. Joe fights dirty and kills name characters in the comics. TMNT is based on the original graphic novels, meaning Leo gets his ass handed to him hard by Shredder and they actually get wounded. But Transformers? It's still the same brand we remember--giant robots come to Earth, duke it out, turn into vehicles and manage to befriend some random kids along the way. Now that we're all older, some of us expect said robots to just not give a damn about Earth or the humans, or even to start squishing a few no matter their allegiance.

I think age has made some people cynical so that they don't want to remember the fun they had with this product.
