I think it's a highly-advanced form of real intelligence.

But some robots seem to work based on AI (drone-like robots, like Ravage in Energon, or Roller).

I agree.  IMO, I have always considered transformers to have intelligence which

is closely related to humans.  (live & learn, training, etc).

The decepticon cassettes (laserbeak, ravage, buzzsaw) can understand word for

word the commands dished out by Megs, Soundwave, Starscream, so their intelligence is greater than drone-like robots.  Drones featured in the toon need

to be closely monitored because they are limited in their thinking abilities. In

the episode "The Key to Vector Sigma pt 1&2 the Autobots reactivate some old

drones on Cybertron to fight the other drones which protect the Vector Sigma

chamber, and the some of the reactivated drones march out the door only to

fall off a ledge and pwn themselves.

The Terrorcons have sparks, there just realy stupid.

Obscure reference time: anyone who's played the Mega Man X series knows that the robots there are characterized as having personalities. And they don't all look human...in fact, except the good guys, and Sigma, they all look like animals. But it's proof that the Japanese don't ALWAYS treat robots as non-thinking machines.

.....Really there were several Mavricks you face that look human, and some good Hunters, ((That usually end up dying... **** capcom))  are animal shaped and etc.  The think about the Reploid is they are basicly cyborgs, basicly Dr.Light made a robot so advanced it could even blend in to human life, but the time is with X's mind/soul the Three rules could be easily broken, and X could just go off killing people ,((Like Zero did when awakened in MM time)).  So then X is found, and then basicly duplacted to make the Reploid, who have basic souls like X, but have too follow more programing, ((Too make sure of no deaths, and that they do what their told and Etc.)), Then Zero reawakens and with his mind set he still goes off to kill, because even if he has a soul, he programing, mixes in a makes it so he follows he derectives, ((To kill)).  Which leads to the leader of the hunters confronting him, knocking zero out, yet taking on zero derectives, which conflict with his main programming, and leave his soul tainted ((basicly gone or rewritten  by Zero programing)) so that he spread the ((Zero Virus. A.k.a the Mavrick virus)) to other repliods, who would be written to kill, and etc.  Yet the think is Light let those casplue behind, to tell X unlike other reploid, he has a complete mind that doesn't follow any set programing and he could just live peacefuly, but X wanted to fight to protect life so nothing else would happen to........

Wait where was I going with this?????  :wtf  :redface  :tfhuh

*yeah I didn't spell check this post*

Really? Seems like a waste to imbue a cannon fodder-ish drone with a spark.

No they talk, and have minds, but what X-bob said is true.  They are all stupid...

Really? Seems like a waste to imbue a cannon fodder-ish drone with a spark.

Seems like a waste to give half the people I work with a soul, but they apparently have them ....

Well, the ones that haven't sold them in favour of a Lexus SUV anyway ...

i think he's refering to the fact that the toys had spark crystals. originally, hasbro intended for the terrorcons to be unique individuals.
