Artificial vs. Actual Intelligence

Recommended Posts

Do you think Transformers operate on something similar to Artificial Intelligence? Or is it something more? IMO, I think it's a highly-advanced form of real intelligence. If it were artificial, they couldn't think on their own, make decisions, willingly harm other life forms (in the case of the Decepticons), or have ideals like peace and justice or tyranny and conquest. But some robots seem to work based on AI (drone-like robots, like Ravage in Energon, or Roller). But as some have pointed out, in the Japanese-made series, the robots seem to have less personality and the Autobots do what the humans tell them to do. What's your opinion on the whole thing?

Re: the Japanese thing, that's just a bias they have. They've always been more into robots as "big armored suits" whereas we've been more into them as "aliens" or whatever.

I think if you accept the "spark" thing then you're obviously dealing with more than just AI. But if you're a GeeWun'er, I dunno.

basicly, i feel that a tf's real form is that of a spark, ie, an incorporal being made up of pure energy. the mechanical forms that we recognize as tf's are artificial host bodies that the sparks inhabit for protection and as a means of interacting with the physical world.

Don't encurage him MH, Armada Starscream has more Charectorization than ANY G1 Bot. The Energon Autobots listn to the Humans BECUSE THERE ALIES! thats like a country lisnting to the UN

It depends on what you believe...

Sparks = Soul/Lifeforce = More than a Robot made up of bunch of parts and chips.

Advanced A.I. Programming = "Intelligent" Robot, nothing more.

I personally prefer the Spark. Because it makes TF's much more than Robots who only "think" they are alive.

Cause without Sparks, they are nothing more than Robots with simulated intelligence, and I just don't like that at all.

If people actually listened to the UN, we'd be headed for Ragnarok by this point. :lol

I like the concept of the spark. It really gives fuel to the idea that TFs operate on something more than an AI program that directs everything they do, say, or think. Transformers are capable of more than what all other machines are capable of, which is either yes or no, or 0 or 1, decisions. They're sentient beings -- look at G1 Prime's quote:

FREEDOM IS TEH RIGHT OF ALL SENTIENT THINGZ

OK, I obviously botched that on purpose, but you get the idea.

Freedom is the Right of alll Sentiant Beings, Except Nightbird :thumb

Obscure reference time: anyone who's played the Mega Man X series knows that the robots there are characterized as having personalities. And they don't all look human...in fact, except the good guys, and Sigma, they all look like animals. But it's proof that the Japanese don't ALWAYS treat robots as non-thinking machines.
