ive always noticed this about TF and it has always bothered me

why are there always some many more autobots than decepticons in every line?

it seems like the autobots could just overpower the decepticons at any point if they wanted to so why do they seem like they are always losing a war where they greatly outnumber the enemy

Because Autobots are wussies.

In japan the heros sell more than the villians....hence in RID the only new molds were the autobots and the decepticons were all repaints save Megs

I would think that would be close to the same in the US.  But then again, I can also see how kids like the bad guys too  :redface

"Now, Lonestar, you will see that evil will always triumph, because good is dumb."

P.S. Most of the RiD 'Cons were repaints, but Scourge was one heck of a cool repaint...

Spaceballs: The Life Advice

The Autobots are suppose to be in general smaller in stature and meant to be workers. Decepticons usually taller and warriors. Jet bigger than car and used in combat.  That is why in Energon they powerlink to match Decept's.

In the fiction the Decepticons often have drones which help even the ranks at bit.

G1 - Reflector clones, Insecticon clones, Sweeps

Beast Machines - all the Vehicons besides the generals

Energon - Terrorcons

Autobots have more numbers but aren't as prepared for war as the 'Cons. The 'Cons also (as Don Cass said) have a lot of Drones (Seekers, Sweeps, Terrorcons, Vehicons, and others) instead of fully-developed characters with personalities.
