is Hot Rod no longer the chosen one?

Recommended Posts

Not that it was ever thought out this far (or at least explained in the TV show), but in retrospect it would seem that Rodimus Prime's "purpose" was to defeat Unicron. In other words, the Matrix chose Hot Rod for a purpose, and then chose Optimus Prime again for another purpose (to destroy the hate plague).

But really, this is just putting a lot more thought into it than is justified IMO. Optimus' return came out of nowhere and was very poorly handled. And as we all know, it was Hasbro's last-ditch effort to save their dying series. It shows you how desperate they were that they were willing to effectively scrap TF:TM and all of Season 3...

Yep.  Thats about my take on it.  Hasbro just underestimated the power of POP OPT.  As far as HOTROD is concerned, he was the "chosen one" just for that instance of time.  Wonder who the new "chosen one" will be?  I'm hoping to see a JET-PRIME/JETFIRE.

Uh.. no? :roll

Well, Rodimus did introduce Cybertron to the whole "Golden Age", didn't he?

Actually, Spike did that.  That was kinda cool to me--a human, the first contact the Autobots had with Earth beings, was responsible for bringing back Cybertron's Golden Age.

Heh, Hasbro had no one to blame by turning off many of its fans by killing off favorite characters in one fell swoop and replacing them with unfamiliar ones.  Maybe if they had introduced the movie characters prior to the movie, they could have given fans a chance to bond, for lack of a better word, with them.

Destroying Unicron was much more important than destroying the hate pluage

Rodimus was chosen "to rise from our ranks and light our darkest hour"  The prophesy said nothing of keeping the world lit after that.

Rodimus Prime: "Now, light our darkest hour..."

Primus: "Okay, all right, it's bright again! We can see! Give back the Matrix."

Damn that's cold...Roddi was definitly delt a bad hand...but in the comics he held his own, and he lead in Headmasters....berfore flying off to god knows where...

But then he finaly rebuilt Seibertron in Battlestars.......just in time for Convoy to get Resurected as Star Convoy :inhredface

The UK comic did Rodimus Prime the most justice. There, Simon Furman made it clear that Rodimus Prime would be the leader in the future for quite some time.

I think that proves it's all about how well the characters are written. Furman really brought Rodimus into his own, since he used him in several future stories that were easier to weave into US continuity. And UK fans definitely liked him judging by the fan mail in the actual comics. They got to have their cake and eat it too-- they got Optimus back in the present, and cool future stories featuring Rodimus.

I was actually talking about the cartoon. I don't recall Spike doing that.
