is Hot Rod no longer the chosen one?

Recommended Posts

i know that when the G1 movie first came out, everyone was going on about hot rod being the "chosen one" or something. but once Prime was revived, he took back the matrix and rodimus reverted back to hot rod. does this mean the matrix made a mistake and that hot rod really wasn't the chosen one?

no it means that kids are whiney Protectobots and wanted thier optimus back :grr *is bitter*

I do believe that this topis was discussed in this post as well as this post.

It means that Hasbro made a mistake.  They thought the Transformers brand name was the selling point.  When actually we cared a lot about the CHARACTERS that were created.  Optimus Prime was the embodiment of everything good about Transformers.  Hot Rod was awesome, but Rodimus Prime just didn't cut it.

BTW, I always hated that Prime died and Megatron lived on (in a way) as Galvatron.  It seemed like such a kick in nads when I was a kid.  It really turned me off to the whole series.  Then series 3 came on TV and it just wasn't as good.

ok, so hasbro made a mistake. how does this translate to the fiction? is it retconned into the matrix making a mistake?

as i stated in an earlier argument, Hot Rod was like Neo, he was "the Chosen one" long enough to perform what he was meant to do.  In that respect he was the only one that could

Not that it was ever thought out this far (or at least explained in the TV show), but in retrospect it would seem that Rodimus Prime's "purpose" was to defeat Unicron. In other words, the Matrix chose Hot Rod for a purpose, and then chose Optimus Prime again for another purpose (to destroy the hate plague).

But really, this is just putting a lot more thought into it than is justified IMO. Optimus' return came out of nowhere and was very poorly handled. And as we all know, it was Hasbro's last-ditch effort to save their dying series. It shows you how desperate they were that they were willing to effectively scrap TF:TM and all of Season 3...

Sorry, I just thought this topic was being discussed in a ba-zillion other threads :roll
