Kit-Bash Idea

Recommended Posts

I was recently in a large hobby store and was looking through their die-cast car section. There I saw a few collectible police cars. They even had one made up like the State of Illnois police cars.

However, it might be a challenge since they were 1:18 scale, so it would take more than just stripping an Alternator for parts.

here's an idea. seeing as how i'm not too sure on what scale the alternators are, you can either build your own by scaling the pieces up or down to the correct scale.

Alternators are labeled as 1/24.

MikePrime,

Just to let you know, it isn't going to be the scale that will get you so much, as how much of a royal pain it's going to be to work with die-cast.

Die-cast is notorious for being hard to cut and shape, even with a dremel rotary tool. all plastic on it has to be removed, because the metal will conduct heat from the cutting process and heat up very rapidly, melting anything plastic that's connected to it. Additionally, it takes a reinforced- fiberglass cutting bit at least 2 MINUTES to cut through a standard thickness of a die-cast body, per INCH. (tedious, huh?)

I like your idea, but I strongly encourage you to find this kit in plastic, if at all possible. I'm not trying to dissuade you from doing it; just trying to save you some unnecessary grief.

I wasn't saying that I'm going to do it, just thought I'd throw that idea out there.
