When Dremels attack!

Recommended Posts

While working on a new robot i was cutting some plastic to make a nosecone for the front of it..

And BAM..the Dremel slipped and spun around the plastic i was cutting and it cut into my finger and fingernail (see pic).

Funny thing is that being the speed is so high it must have burnt it closed i guess.

No bleeding or pain...on the way to the E.R. it started to throb..and i got to stiches and some wierd glue to fill in the fingernail.

I thought i'd post this so all you new kitbashers will be carefull and won't let this happen to you.

It's wierd..when they gave me a shot of numbing stuff before the cleaning and stiching...it was the worst pain i have ever felt in my whole life!!!

yikes... that just loosk painful.

Yeah. I've had some mishaps with both dremel tools, as well as regular tools. let me guess: you were holding the plastic piece you were cutting in one hand, while you were holding the rotary tool in your other hand.

I also learned that lesson the hard way, Soundgear. Nowadays, I use a small hobby vise to hold the piece that I'm working on. Rotary tools (namely the cutting wheels) are notorious for spinning around the piece you're cutting, especially if they are round or ovoid in any way.

You're lucky you didn't lose that portion of your finger. I don't mean to sound like your mother or anything, but you only get one set of hands, feet, eyes, and everything else. Human beings are a lot harder to fix than transformers, and human injuries take a lot longer to heal. I hope you don't give up on kitbashing because of this; just consider it a lesson learned, and please be more careful the next time. We all make mistakes, especially me.

Damn dude you now got some battle scars.....but I’m happy it wasn't worst.
