masterpiece Scourge

Recommended Posts

I will start off by saying that I have never attempted a repaint before. I just recently aquired a 20th Ann. Prime to go with a Masterpiece I also have. Well, I thought I would repaint the 20th prime into Scourge. The thing is I don't want to get into the actual painting and screw something up or not be happy with the end result. What I want to do is get a picture on the computer and photoshop or digibash how the colors would look. It would allow me to try different colors in different place to come up with something I like and go with it. Taking into account I have no real idea what I'm doing, can anyone point me in the right direction on doing this. Also, I planned to use gloss black krylon paint for the body. Is this a good paint to use and would just model paint work for the trim paint? I was thinking a teal and red trim. Pretty much a similar paint scheme as RID Scourge. Any help/advise will be greatly appreciated.

My only advice is that you may want to start on a smaller/easier scale, at least for your very first kitbash/mod/repaint. There is an excellent beginners guide pinned here that will tell you everything you need to know.

But seriously, do some warm ups on a battle ravage into a cheetor or something along those lines. Just my 2 cents.

If you want to do a full kibash and make a true Master piece Scurge I suggest a testors freight liner model kit.

I saw a tanker trailer model kit at Walmart this morning and thought of this topic imediately.

yo peanut04 i got some advice for you on this one.

you want to paint a figure up make sure you use acryllic paints as they are definately easier to work with then enamel paints for one thing.

i know the color selection isn't that great when it comes to acrylic paints but with a little patience you can get any color shade you want when you mix acryllic and enamel paints for the color you want.

you'd be surprised how good of a deep purple you can get mixing red acrylic paint with a little dark blue enamel paint

that and your paint brushes will last longer on you since the acryillic paint is easily washed off the brush anyway.

for another thing make sure the figure is completely dissasembled down to the smallest parts all right.

make sure you take your time man.

work on it a piece at a time when it comes to painting it up in the main color or colors man all right.

some colors need to be applied in multiple layers before the piece is finally ready for the detail work.

i ought to know when it comes to painting universe rasorclaw up as tigerhawk. that thing was a major glitch just when it came to bashing the figure up so that the figure would be show accurate when compared to the character model they used for tiger hawk in beast wars.

but most of all make sure you got plenty of ventilation and just try to enjoy the job along the way.

the more time and thought you put into it the better the figure will look when its done

nah thats not too useful on a large project like this,

just dissasemble what you can, use office tape not maskign tape to mask of areas, then prime it (optional) and spray it black.

spray not brush on these large Tf's i used to do them with brush's and they dotn come out half as well as sprays

:pfx I spray painted my Rodimus VTS kitbash butI did have to touch it up with brushes to fix trouble spots. Such as where glue ran down the passenger door :redface . It`s ok cause if you know what your doing you can even it out with several coats.

The best advice I can offer is to take your time, and take it one step at a time. Rushing a project is one of the worst things one can do.

Basically what everyone else said:

- it might be a better idea to do something smaller first. (Maybe you can even get another Prime (like the G-1 or a G-1 Ultra Magnus) and use that as practise.)

- I would take apart what you can take apart (not all screws are the same so it might be an idea to make a quick sketch of the bot and screw the screws in this piece of paper so you don't loose them and know where they originated.

- Use tape or masking tape to cover those parts you don't want to paint. Also an option is color stop which can be aplied with a brush (which can't be used for anything else afterward so don't use an expeinsive or favorite one) and which needs to be removed when the paint is dust dry

- Use spray paints. Doesn't matter whether you use enamals or acrylic, but you have to spray: brushes often leave burshmarks which is an awful sight. And also use enough coating to protect your paint. (i have found that airbrush paint, probably because it's very thin, can also be aplied with a brush without any brushmarks).

- Make sure yoou sand down those parts that come into contact. Paint and cote take up space and often the parts fit exactly. Meaning that with paint, they don't fit or the paint scratches off. You have to sand it down till there's enough space for the paint.

Best advice, of course, is to thoroughly read the Idiots Guide to kitbashing, to take a lot of time (don't rush anything) and prepare...prepare...prepare.

For the preparation part you say you want to use photoshop. Is a good idea. I personally fail everytime I want to use photoshop so I can't help you with that. An idea might be to scan a drawing from the instruction booklet (since Armada these drawings are often very detailed) and color those on either you computer or with color pencils.

Anyway. Good luck and let us know how it worked out.
