Removal of decals on Smokescreen

Recommended Posts

I need to know what will take off the logos on SS without too much harm to the plastic. I will be painting him, but i don't want the outline of the logos.

I would like to know what product you used.... the exact product... because I bought something that was supposed to work and I ruined a TF (not alt fortunately).

thanx

I’ve used clear fingernail polish remover. It left some discoloration on white, but I don't know if that will happen on a dark colored surface.

I've used nail polish remover, rubbing alcohol and this other stuff called OOPS. If you le tthe parts soak in the OOPS solution they come right off by lightly rubbing them off. Just wear gloves when you use this stuff as it is designed to remove just about anything from decals, sticker residue........ But it is the only stuff I have used that does not harm the clear windows or the colored plastic at all. I've found it at walmart in the household cleaners section. Worked the best fo rme so far. I hope this helps you out and good luck.

You should NEVER use nail polish remover on a toy - acetone, the main chamical in nail polish remover - will dissolve and damage the plastic, and using it on clear plastic cause frosting.

Check out This Thread to see what I did. I used Tamiya Acrylic Thinner X-20A (item #81040) to remove the deco from Smokescreen. It worked great and did no damage to the plastic at all, even the windows.

But you can get acetone free remover. Of course I only paid $0.86 for it and that's probably why it left that smudgelike resin. How much did the X-20A cost?

I use Testors Enamel Thinner to strip the paint off of Silverstreak, with no harm to clear plastic. Just don't let it sit on the plastic too long, to be safe. One small jar runs about 75 cents or so, you'll probably need at least 2 of those. Use cottonballs or cotton squares (designed for make-up removal, those are what I used) and Q-tips for tight areas. :thumb

ive used non-acitone fingernail polish remover alcohol preps and goo gone on smokescreen, the alcohol preps work fine but ur in for alot of rubbing and elbow grease the nail polish remover takes it right of but u have to be careful not to use to much or the plastic will turn kinda gummy

The Tamiya thinner is, as expected, a bit more expensive than nail polish remover. A 250mL bottle will run you around $9, but it's worth the extra in my opinion. I'm never worried that my plastic will frost or trun "gummy" or anything like that, even if I have to soak a part in the stuff for half an hour or longer.

And trust me, a 250mL bottle of this stuff will last you a long time.

well, i'm not about to pay $9 for something to take off decals. I'll rub softly with steel wool before I pay that much for remover.

Thanx for all the suggestions.

I sanded them off my SS . I sanded all of the outside of car mode so the paint would stick better. :tfsad :tfevil :tflaugh :tfgrin :tfhuh :tfpuke :tflaugh1 :tftongue :tfmad
