Giving Up - TFSource Article

It’s a depressing subject, giving up toy collecting, but it’s one that many have considered from time to time and even acted upon. One might be driven to the brink of surrender by finances, space, obsession, disinterest, priorities or a feeling of being overwhelmed. It can lead to feelings of liberation, or pangs of regret. As intensely personal as the collection itself, the reason to quit collecting depends on the person, the way in which that collection was built and maintained, and their circumstances or stage in life.

All the best

I think its very easy to get out of control when it comes to collecting Transformers. Its always been this way for me at least. It would have been just fine, say back in Beast Wars and Beast Machines, the domestic offering wasn't really overdoing it. Then the internet became revealed and we could then go after toys from other countries. Early outlets like Ebay and BBTS made it easy for a collector to pick up those Japanese toys. And as time went on, more and more stuff came out and we would keep buying it. Sooner or later you are left with the realisation that you can't possible store, play or display all this stuff. And that is when the decision has to be made. It comes down to determining what exactly you are looking for in your collection. Maybe you just need to get out or maybe you just need to refocus on what you're doing.

It's pretty easy to get out of control collecting...well, anything. Most collectors are obsessive about it, and as such, can easily allow it to take over. I've had to pull the reins back a few times.

If I had to start liquidating, I'd feel the least regretful starting somewhere in the middle and work towards the most current lines ('90 - '00 and on). '84 - '87 is sacred grounds...that'd be difficult. Unfortunately, the older I get, the more I'm feeling that way about the pre-Transformers period. And then of course there's the newer offerings that fill many of those old holes (a UNICRON toy, IT's Quints & Allicon, purple reissue of Galvatron, Devastator upgrade kits, etc.)...sheesh, now I'm back to collecting instead of shedding! Yeah, this would be overwhelming...stop thinking about it, stop thinking about it! ;)
