non-kitbasher question

I was just wondering (as I often do) whether it is possible to use plastic dyes as opposed to doing `repaints` as this would make the prospect of customisation a lot easier to those too scared to try painting. From what I have seen and gained info on from the internet a variety of plastic dyes exist so it occurs to me to remove the bodyshell from a TF and dump it in a bath of dye to acheive the colour of choice could be a useful concept.

Anyone got any more info on this or can debunk my idea? Anyone tried it?

just plain'ol rit dye will dye transformers. I've done it twice... and it works great... just try it on some minicons or something insignificant first.

will it turn a dark transformer a light color, or will it only do the reverse?
