I'm attempting my first TF custom (Dead End to Sunstreaker). I could use some advise on taking Dead End apart before painting. Is there an easy way to remove his limbs?

Surely you have more love for a new board member than this...

i have no idea what it takes to take dead end apart, but there are pix going around about how to take tracks apart for a custom mod for easier posing in bot mode. Granted tracks and dead end arent the same mold, but they have slightly simliar transformations so you might want to look into that as a start. I think your best bet for advice might be to msg. some of the guys who have already made sunstreaker customs from the dead end mold. I'm sure theres more than a couple who already have, but the first two that come to mind are bodycount and viagra prime, other than that i can only wish you luck and that i hope it counts out like you want it.

Always glad to help. Remove any screws keeping it together. Just try to keep track of which piece goes where. Don't worry, there are no springs or small parts that will all of a sudden jump away.

Unfortunately that's all I can offer for help. Just try to keep everything in order and you should be fine. Practice one section at a time if you feel you need to get more cofortable. For instance try just removing an arm and re-assembling it. I'm sure you'll be taking that thing to pieces in no time.

As mentioned by guld, just unscrew the screws. One by one of course. The thigh portion is attached by a screw and a pin/nail. You can attempt to take the 2 halves apart even with the pin but you may damage the plastic if your not careful. So you may want to consider just leaving it. Makes it a bit harder to paint especially if you plan to paint the thigh a different color than the upper thigh/hip or lower leg.

As for what to do with the screws, I usually just screw it back on to the part it can be screwed to right after I take said part apart. That way you don't have to worry about losing it or about which size screw goes where.
