  1. The Pow Wow Show podcast interviewed Rik Alvarez about his work on Transformers and his upcoming Play With This Too project. The interview starts about 8 minutes in. http://thepowwowshow.net/rik-alvarez-play-with-this-too/ http://www.thepowwowshow.net/audio/powwow353.mp3 Some things Rik talks about include how he started at and left Hasbro, how they used his collection for photographs, how he talked them into making the G2 FOC Combaticons and got one of the original box art artists to make up the box and color matched the toys to the G2 Combaticons he owned, his work at TFCC and his books. He talks about how Hasbro is reluctant to release female characters as TF toys because it's a boys line, how they limit the designers by part counts, paint applications and size. Why there are such differences between the show and toy appearances of a character. He also comments on how the TF line has become kiddified and has way too many non-transforming toys. For Play With This Too, he tells how it's named after a comic book store, it's been around for about a year, but only announced last week. There are more designers and writers working for him that are to be announced, how there will be major announcements at TFcon Chicago.

  4. Play With This Too attended Retrocon this weekend, and displayed new art of Astroblast (colored like Generation 1 Cloudburst!), as well as an upcoming villian figure called Desolation, who seems remarkably similar to Generation 1 Skullgrin. They also displayed a set of alternate heads called Head Shots Vol. 1. Even more unusual though is their figure called Deep Earth Explorer, a recolor of Astroblast, who seems to be colored like the Inhumanoids character Liquidator! You may remember that Inhumanoids was another 1980's toy line and TV series made by Hasbro and Sunbow, and it had some crossover characters with Transformers. According to their display Astroblast will stand 6 inches tall, have multiple 5mm ports, multiple interchangable hands that hold 5mm weapons, comes with 1 robot and 1 human head, have multiple articulation points, come with a Tech Drone that can become weapons or a shield and has a hyper action whip. http://en.wikialpha.org/wiki/Play_With_This_Too

Also, be sure to check out the other themed backdrops like GI joe, Masters of the Universe and more.

It will feature a 6 inch tall figures with reconfigurable armor and lots of 5mm ports. Released already is concept art for one of their heroic designs called Astroblast. More information will be announced at this weekend's Retrocon and at TFcon. http://playwiththistoo.com/ Meet the PWTT cast:

  13. Here is an update on the X-Transbots Mini-Master design. The bottom of the box for their Ollie figure teased Boost and Hatch (not Windcharger and Tailgate) from the design. Some fans are also speculating that we may get a version of the mold as one of the cars from the TV series Knight Rider, because the early model we saw of this mold had it's details on the design. Other characters Hasbro or Takara have made from Windcharger molds include Rook, Shattered Glass Rook and the Decepticon Wipe Out. Will we see any of these characters homaged by this mold? Only time will tell!
