Hilarious. How do they justify any of those "disguises". A minesweeping miliary truck? A 900HP mustang police car? A helicopter that the military knew was trouble before they could even see it?

Exactly.

An ambulance that isn't regulation anywhere?

A pair of Concept Cars?

Flying wad of tinfoil? (ok it wasn't supposed to be an earth mode, but just having meg's turn into flying kibble was weak as hell.)

I think the revealing words in the quote are "We couldn't quite figure out."

In fact, I think THAT is their theme.

Within the world the story takes place in, the Concept Car isn't a concept, it's a purchasable vehicle. Hence, the one that drove past them in the tunnel. Same goes for the ambulance - it is in use in that world. That's how Ratchet scanned it at the scene of his wreck.

Honest and informed critique of the story from a literary standpoint is one thing, but nitpicking this kinda crap is :fail

"Yeah, they're robots. From space. That Transform. Fuck you, Orci and Kurtzman, for insulting my intelligence."

So conceivably GOOD writers could think of a reason to use popular characters from the fiction that weren't necessarily "real world" reasons?

Could that, and not "nitpicking" have been my whole point?

Context. :thumb Check it before you break out the :fail

No, because you were talking about the specifics of the vehicle designs, which were largely out of the writer's hands.

There is a world of difference between, "we couldn't find a way to justify dinosaurs (to the satisfaction of everyone on the production team) in the story" and "we wrote Ratchet as an ambulance, and Bay used a lime green hummer."

They land in a museum and scan Mock up Dinosaurs.

That took 5 seconds.

It also sucks.

And you're omitting the bolded part - "we couldn't find a way to justify dinosaurs (to the satisfaction of everyone on the production team) in the story"

They don't get to write whatever they want - they have to write the movie the directors and producers want to shoot. They may have presented 100,000 different ideas for robots wanting to turn into dinosaurs, but if they're not approved, they won't be in the movie, and therefore not in the script.

Welcome to Hollywood.

And, seriously, I thought you were better than the "they land at a museum" bullshit. That's a really cheesy idea which I have more intensely attacked in other threads and won't delve that deeply into here. But really, it's like Magic Shrinky bad.

A: Scanning and insta-changing is Magic Shrinky Bad.

B: The Allspark DID magic shrinky.

C: Lands next to the UBER Cool Car Dealership ain't so spiffy either.

Once you have the Magic Scanny thing going, they could scan Metal Sculptures of dinosaurs. (or Grimlock might not need to be a dinosaur)

I'm just saying that for a writer "I couldn't think of anything" is a pretty lame excuse. Studio doom aside, I think these guys just kinda suck.

We've been dreaming of this one, and it appears a transforming K.I.T.T. will be coming as soon as August! It must be something big and or special with a $49. - Read the Full News Story

    • EDIT 2: Okay, I think my real problem with this was the marketing image. The main image shows four robot turtles standing together, so I was ready for four toys, not one. Admittedly, I was so disappointed that I did not bother to read the article fully. That's my fault. I apologize. That said, now that I understand it is THE van that turns into a robot, not "robot versions of the four turtles," that makes more sense, but I don't get the four heads. There are images here of a bandana free head which I gather is not included. I would actually prefer a non-specific generic turtle head for the robot. I think that would remove a lot of confusion. At least for me. EDIT 1: My bad, I misunderstood. It's one toy with swappable heads. So, you made a thing based on a four member team, and you only want to sell one toy? You're not even trying to get people to "Collect all FOUR!" You do understand how toy sales work, right? Original Comment: This is a perfectly fine idea executed TERRIBLY. You made four unique toys, each specific to each of the Ninja Turtles, that all turn into the same vehicle? It would be one thing if they joined together to form the van. There have been transformer sets like that before. This is just wasted opportunity. Not to mention, that van exists for the turtles to ride in together as a team, so if they can turn into vehicles ... what do they need a van for? I get that that's their van, and that's cute and all, but ... this is just dumb and disappointing. Why not think about what kind of car each of them would drive based on their personalities, or ask some car company if they want to do a tie-in promotional? What do I want with four copies of the same van and no one to ride in any of them? It makes no sense.
