G1 boxes - US vs. Canadian

So I got an MISB Perceptor recently, and just got it back from AFA. The tag says "Hasbro Canada," to which I reply, WTF? I think this has to be a mistake, so I'm hoping others on here can help me with the specifics between US and Canadian boxes. As I understand it, the Canadian boxes are distinguishable by multiple languages as well as over-sized tech specs on back. My Perceptor features nothing of the sort, nor is there any reference to Canada at all. None. The trademark line on the rear of the box says "1985 Hasbro Bradley, Inc. Pawtucket, RI 02861 USA. All rights reserved. Made and printed in Japan. Manufactured by Takara Co., LTD. Tokyo, Japan." This is the exact same trademark as is on the Ramjet they graded in the same shipment, which is not listed as "Hasbro Canada." There is no difference between this Perceptor box and another that I recently sold that I thought was a US box.

Pics of this Perceptor are on this page, about 1/3 of the way down: http://forums.TFormers.com/talk/index.php?...686&st=5340

Also, when I log into AFA and check out their population reports, there are no listings for an 85 under Perceptor Hasbro Canada, only 1 listed at 80. This may just be a delay in updating their population reports though, too.

Also, here is a link to a Canadian Grimlock. You can see the multiple languages splashed all around the box, along with the completely different trademark line. Of course, this is a 1984 box, while Perceptor is 1985, but I would think they'd still be very similar.

If the link doesn't work, the item number is 200088905025.

I just don't believe this is a Canadian box. Can any one shed some light on this for me?

Thank you in advance.

Yea that looks like a US Perceptor to me. I own a few Canadian G1s. Even if the name were the same in French (Perceptor) it would be listed on the box twice, like the Astrotrain box I have. Otherwise it would have 2 names on it. Also it would say The Les or Les next to the Transformers logo, for example. Here's a good example of the differences between US and Canadian packaging from my collection:

Thanks. Those boxes show just what I was thinking. Does it have the gray border above the tech on back too, and does the trademark mention Canada? Cuz I think a Canadian box should show some type of "Hasbro Canada" info.

I really like AFA, but think they screwed the pooch on this one. I'll email them tomorrow and see what excuse they come up with to get out out of this mistake. At least I'm 98% sure it is a mistake.

Well ye olde Jetfire is in storage, but to answer your question with other toys:

1. They gray border above the tech specs are only on my CA boxes, not on the US boxes. They say:

TECH SPECS: Clip and save! Use the special decoder inside to decipher your Tech Specs!

FICHE TECHNIQUE: Decoupez et conservez! Decodez votre fiche technique a l'aide du decoeur special inclus.

2. The copyright info is on the bottom of the box. Here is one example:

1985 Hasbro Industries (Canada) Ltd / Les Industries Hasbro (Canada) Ltee, Longueuil, Quebec J4G 1G2. All Rights Reserves/Tous Droits Reserves

Made and printed in Japan/Fabrique et imprime au Japon. Manufactured by/Manufacture par Takara Co. Ltd., Tokyo.

The only CA TF boxes I have out of storage are Astrotain (Astrotrain) and Blitzwing (Le Blitz). Since Perceptor (if it were CA) came out the same year as these TFs, they should have the same markings. The Canadian ones are OBVIOUSLY not the US ones, due to there being French on all sides of the box.

Have you contacted AFA about this yet?
