Hasboro or Takara Optimus Prime?

yeesh.

The Takara (Masterpiece Convoy) and Hasbro (20th Anniversary Optimus Prime) are identical except for 20AOP's short smokestacks, "battle damage" paint and packaging, which comes with a cardboard replica of the original Prime's "support base" (read: opened trailer).

20AOP comes in typical American cardboard box w/ clear plastic window. MPC comes in a much nicer black box with Convoy on the front and "historical text" on the back (I think. I'm at work, and going from memory.).

Both MPC and 20AOP initially came with a grey blaster gun. Hasbro made a "running change" in production, and now some have grey, some have black. Eventually, all 20AOP's should have the black gun. I have no idea if Takara has done the same.

Both version have the same die-cast parts (chest, lower legs). Both transform exactly the same way.

If you have the extra $20 - $30 and want a more cartoon-accurate Prime, go with Takara. If you only have the $70 or so and like the short stacks and dark-grey "battle damage" paint-scheme, go for Hasbro.

Info? Go to the TFormers.com site and look under toy reviews. Otherwise look at the Takara and Hasbro versions closely by pics at e-tail shops. Its pretty noticeable. I guess the differences also rival the Alternators line. I know that the Takara Smokescreen is metal while the Hasbro version is plastic. What can I say... we always get the best in the US  :usa

The only thing that's "pretty noticable" is the neutered smokestacks and damage paint.

And isn't that last comment a complete contradiction of itself?

yes, if everyone spends all of their money on TFs, surely it will be enough to stabilize the economy.
