Idea: Alternate Universe Transformers

Cybertron. Same G1 characters, same membership, same team symbols EXCEPT:

1. The Autobot symbol represents only "Civilians" and the Decepticon symbol represents the "Military".
   
2. They are not factions. Nor are they generally divided into Good vs Evil. The symbols only represent their role in Cybertron society.
   
3. Civilians spawned from the same "consumer goods" backstory. Military hail from the same "military hardware" origins. Same Quintesson rebellion beginnings. However, they may occasionally shift "sides" depending on the capacity in which they operate.
   
4. The Military serve the entire planet under the leadership of top-level civilian leader who holds the title "Prime" and serves as a commander-in-chief of sorts. They hold military might and prowess as primary values, but also honor and duty, as well as a sense of ethics/morality. ("Proud Warrior Race" trope)
   
5. The Civilians are private citizens concerned with the development and expansion of Cybertronian economy and society (business, life, and culture).
   

The A story conflict would surround a growing rift between Optimus and Megatron, who were former friends that served together in the Military. Optitron gets elected as civilian leader becoming "Optimus Prime", and shedding his military symbol for a civilian one. Megatron succeeds him as leader of all of Cybertron's military forces. ("-tron" here being used as a suffix of the highest ranked military leader.) The role of Prime is responsible for handling foreign affairs including diplomatic relations and war/invasions against other planets. As such, Optimus orders an invasion of another civilized world, for energy and natural resources, which Megatron is reluctant to carry out as he finds it dishonorable and purely for supporting gross consumption by the civilian masses.

 

B story possibilities involve the familiar G1 characters in Civilian or Military situations depicting the benefits and shortcomings of either philosophy, hopefully exploring more depth and dimension to various characters.

 

This idea originally spawned out of a whimsical role-reversing of their names to "Optitron" and "Megamus Prime" and of the good/evil of both groups. Brainstorming evolved it into this idea where Prime is far from morally altruistic and "good" and Megatron is far from unquestionably evil.

I am very much into Alternate Universe Transformers. The Cybertron Alliance Universe, or CAU for short, is a continuity I started, which focuses on the idea that Megatron and Optimus Prime are allies, and Megs (along with some others) were never Decepticons in the first place, among other things. The pic in my sig shows the temporary alliance between the Autobots and Decepticons, that happened in the G2 comics. Not the same thing, but it was the closest I could find to represent the continuity. Anyway, anyone is welcome to write for it.

Glue, your concept has many similarities to my own fan universe that I try to plug all of my toys into. I always kind of like the idea that all the toylines/continuities fit into one, cohesive storyline.
