Question about Saleens...

My Alt. Mode Sucks

Recommended Posts

I understand that those Saleen Mustangs are police-modded and all that goodness -- but my question is, why would a police department bother using cars that are rather expensive as their patrol vehicles? I mean we all know 'stangs ain't cheap, so why bother when most departments use four-door sedans (which when you think about it is more practical)?

This reminds me of G1 Red alert, in that a fire chief would in no way be able to afford a frickin' Italian hot rod. :07laugh

It's not out of the question to see a Saleen Mustang police car. D.A.R.E. police cars are often not standard sedans, but flashier cars. Google some pics and you'll see what I mean. Here's a real Mustang GT police car:

Using a regular Mustang isn't unreasonable, it isn't uncommon to see them used as "pursuit" cars by State/Highway Patrol - the fleet price on them is probably around $16k.

However, using a Saleen is completely ridculous - the S281 is $70k.

In Alabama, they use Dodge Chargers for State Troopers' Cars, and they ain't exactly stock.

Yeah, I know, insert your "Alabama" joke in here if you need to. It's okay.

Those looks so good :drool

My local PD in Mississippi is all Ford so the best I can hope for is a slow and heavy Crown Vic when I finally get sworn in. Our old cars are dark blue but the newest are black. Eventually they are going to black cars with white doors... kinda' like Barricade :redface

I work in Tracy CA and they just picked up a Dodge Charger cruiser... thing looks mean. Meaner than any ol' stodgy Crown Vic ever could.
