I like this version the most. Funny how they have so many versions of the same mold for a character that dies.

Well, the bio on this specific paint job indicates that he didn't die, but with efforts by Ratchet is fixed and back to full function and got this new paint job with help from Ratchet and BB, wanting to attract attention to his vehicle mode even if he's hiding amongst the humans.

You boys are always complaining. If they didn't do that repaint, you'd be the firsts to scream for it. If one of all them have to be G1 repainted, it's Jazz. He's the only movie mold that is so close to his original diaclone toy. Ironhide or Rachet repaints would have less sens.

Personnaly, I'm happy hasbro gave the fans some G1 spirit repaint and so fast.

And for the weapon, I think the new one is on the same tree as the "melted" robot parts. so G1 repaint would have a regular weapon.

Off topic, about the melted Jazz, it would have worth something if they crashed a little the car mode too. But I guess Pontiac wouldn't have autorised this :(
