EDIT: Forgot to ask. Is it a complete scratchbuild or did you use an existing Prime for this. (Too lazy right now to look at your WIP link :redface)

It's a complete scratchbuild. But not in the way as everyone has done so far. He used a 3-D designing program to make the design (based on the comic drawings) and then ran the designs through a prototyping machine and the machine turns the 3-D design into real life parts. This is how most toys are made nowadays. Not much hand sculpting or hand scratchbuilding anymore.

Yeah uh. So I'm trying to talk myself out of saving up $200 to order one from you... but it's not working, especially considering that I have some stuff that's about to hit ebay. I think I just might have to have one of these.

You do realize that you can't have an order page, right? You're gonna have to take orders by email or PM or risk getting a C&D letter from Hasbro.

Phenomenal. Great job. Looks like a Masterpiece toy to me. Hasbro should be doing things like this..

You have to do the HOS versions of Shockwave and Insecticons next. :thumb

Ooohh! Does that mean you'll do the HOS Insecticons as well? I love how they went for the Reflector-like combination train with them.

Very likely, I loved they way they combine too. But it'll have to wait in queue after Megs. Lobo did a fantastic job but I wanted my own version of it, just as he wanted his own version of Prime.

He didn't appear in the comic except in the beginning where they go over something about their war on a planet being covered in ice (the Ice Age), and one faction of the warrriors (Autobots), going into hiding in caverns. They all have beast/savage based alternate modes, and Prime's is somewhat inspired by Big Convoy (it's that obvious), but the ones that wake up during the point in the Industrial Evolution where the story takes place include Bumblebee, Ironhide, Ratchet, Prowl, Gears, and Sideswipe is seen partially (no head or body shot to speak of). We also see other characters in the openings where they're beasts and stuff that are obvious (Huffer, Cliffjumper, Blaster, Bluestreak, and Tracks), and an unamed Autobot that looks somewhat like a shortened Ultra Magnus that's only a small bit taller than Ironhide. The Decepticons in the story are the Seekers, Octane, Shockwave, Blitzwing, the Insecticons, Soundwave, Thrust, Astrotrain, Rumble/Frenzy (depends on which version you say is which), Ravage, Scourge, Squawkbox. Not all of them have alternate modes that are seen, but are still obscure and have no idea what they are.

The two leaders had concept art drawn, Optimus (and you're figure is dead on), and two for Megatron, one is a cannon (which somebody has already done), and the other is a 18th/19th century pistol.

Thanks! That's really informative! I'm not much of a comic reader, but I did buy the War Within and GI Joe TPBs just for the concept art pages. Do they have a TPB for HOS too?

This...this is really REALLY effing amazing. A veritable work of art :thumb

I so envy you for being able to do something like this.

When you paint this one, make sure to use old looking paints and dirty them up: little scratches (silver) and bits of rust. A shiny paintjob would really ruin this, and that would be such a shame.

Well the regular ones that I'm making will be normal semi gloss like how the usual toys are, but I wanna do up a real battle damaged version, like with... real damages :D

Its a complete erm.. .scratchbuilt.

HOLY BALLS

Do comissions? >_>

What did you use for materials? Because that looks reaaally slick! :thumb :thumb

I don't know if they have an actual term for it, but everyone calls it chemical wood. Its a form of low dense resin that is commonly used for prototyping. Easy to carve and cut but pretty brittle and weak.

Thanks for help me answer that :D For "engineered" toys this is the case since the first Takara Microman or Bandai Godaikin. However for action figures, the sculpts are still done by hand and later scanned into 3D for the machining.

I don't, but I have a general idea coz I did custom Marvel busts and the community has its rules which probably applies elsewhere coz they make sense. I wouldn't wanna change the name or design coz I wanted the customs to look as "authentic" as possible so I'm keeping the production limited. Will probably do a blog or something to archive the WIPs and gallaries but no orders.

You know if you jsut release him like that we can be Magnus:)

*ducks from the impending angry thrown objects*

Seriously though that is incredible man.

Haha it sounds funny but I don't get the joke.. :P but I'd like to know what that supposed to mean :D And thanks for the compliments.

Sigh I wish its even close to a masterpiece. It's just eye candy because of the details and size but that's all to it. I wished the engineering could be better and though I don't really care for gimmicks or light effects, I loved the simple little gimmicks that MPOP has, like the leg flaps and the comms panel on his arm. This is too far from a true masterpiece. But thanks for such a flattering comment. :D

Indeed they do! It's a great read...up until the end. It's almost as if they rushed to finish it.
