The Bond Gadget Test

(pops back in - not actually participating in THIS discussion) This is almost becoming a spectator sport, watching Tramp dig himself deeper and deeper.

So, if Starscream is a YF-22, and Ironhide is a Dodge truck, wouldn't Starscream flatten Ironhide every time?

I think Tramp may have had an overload against him. Tough and Steadfast though he may be.

Like sitting in the parking lot across from the building where his minions were gathering data while he personally coordinated their efforts?

What good is a car mode to a communications specialist? How does it help him fulfill his primary function? it doesn't! A vehicle mode forces him to divide his internal systems to other functions besides his job. A stationary yet portable alternate mode, allows him to focuas all of his internal systems to his job. That being surveylannce and communications. That is why you don't give him a vehicle mode. Period. The only reason why you want him to have a vehicle mode is you don't like Mass conversion.

You do realize your idea of an "important" mission for Soundwave is for him to get really tiny and hide away in some dark corner with his record button held down until nobody's around for him to get away without wrecking the place he was spying on.

He does have Laserbeak and his other minions.

So what are them little things on my MP Prime's wrists? :schin

Just give up. Please.

Personal radios are not the same thing, and it would not make sense to use them when Megatron is right next to Soundwave, or even in the same room. You will notice that when Soundwave is sent out on a mission, he never transmits the data to Megatron's comlink. He personally projects or plays back the recordings in front of him. Why do you think that is?

First Off - It's been established in EVERY TF Continuity/Storyline that each TF has a communcations system within their bodies - some like Prime have multiple parts and are spread out around their bodies. What would stop him from transmitting his info/relaying it to Megatron's personal communication system? If Soundwave's body was designed as such - he could do it, without having to have a Stereo Alt. Mode to do so.

Most transformers have only a rudimentary comlink. They aren't designed specifically with communications ans surveylance in mind. Soundwave is. His alternate mode is. The others are not. Secondly, why would he transmit them to Megatron's ciomlink when he is standing next to him?

Please Note. A fanboy can be trapped in a fan-bubble about only one certain part. It does NOT have to be every thing or even multiple things. I know I can, and it appears you can too.

EDIT -- I give you tons of credit for standing by what you believe in, but I still think you are seeing some things through fanboy goggles too much to see the possiblities of differences that could work in the Movie Universe.

Fanboy goggles have nothing to do with it. Understanding the character and what makes him who and what he is, does.

The extreame density of your fanboy goggles has helped me remove mine. I am so much more accepting of movie contenuity after this thread. To see how we all can get attached to an out dated idea for no reason. Very enlightning.

Let me put this query to you. What does a vehicle mode have to do with communications or sound waves? Nothing.

What does a Satelite have to do with sound waves? Nothing.

Soundwave got his name because of what he transformed into: a stereo tape deck, which is a device specifically designed to produce sound waves. Hence the name "Soundwave". Makes sense don't it?

A satelite doesn't produce sound waves, A transformer who turned into a satelite would be better with a name like Cosmos, and guess what. We have a character who fulfills that role and has that name. How appropriate?

Now, why would you change that and turn Soundwave into something that doesn't relate to his job and really doesn't make sense given his name? Just because you don't like Mass conversion? Soundwave's alternate mode fits him fine, or more accurately, the modern equivalent, and Mass conversion is what allows him to have that mode. It is a fundamental part of who and what he is. If you take that away and try to turn him into some other type of vehicle, he ceases to be Soundwave, and you might as well not use him at all. Call the character something else.

In my native Carbombiea all Semi trucks are called Optimi, Why didn't I see the truth before?

And Wheeljack has WHEELS! *^in Genuis!

Wheeljack's name and his alt mode alsoi had alot to do with his personality. The same with Skids. He gets his name because of his daydreaming while driving, which invariably results in him skidding to avoid and accident.

Soundwave and Blaster both get their names from their functions and their alternate modes. Their alternate modes are a direct relflection and outward appearance of who and what they are. That is what makes their alternate modes so perfect for them. So, why would you change that? What is so "stupid" and so bad about mass conversion that it necessitates totally changing a character's alternate mode, one that is a perfect fit, to something which really doesn't fit the character at all, just to avoid using that gimmick?

Mass conversion is directly tied into Soundwave. It is tied into his function as Megatron's right-hand bot and to his alternate mode. It is what makes his alternate mode possible to begin with. There is nothing inherently wrong with it. Is is fantasitc and scientifically impossible? sure it is. So what. It is a fantasy. That is what suspension of disbelief is for. Making the impossible seem plausible.

So Soundwave is the now the Rattrap or Cheetor of transformer names. Nevermind that he is a giant space robot, the only thing in the universe that can do anything relating to communications are CD players, DVDs, and laptap computers! If he doesn't turn into those things, then his name and function are meaningless! He's useless if he somehow could turn into something more useful and geared towards actual communications.

Egads! If he has to tell Megatron something, or playback the data he recorded, he can't do it if he's not a portable electronic device! Nevermind that Darth Vader has a hologram viewer in his own hand, or even that we're talking about giant space robots. He can't playback his findings if Megatron's right next to him unless he transforms into a tiny piece of electronic hardware!

Of course Soundwave would want to spy on the humans by shrinking into a tiny tape player! Even though he could have minions to already do that job for him, and spying that way has nothing to do with communications! It's totally who Soundwave is! Which is a something that makes noise, which clearly isn't anything BUT personal electronics!

Why didn't I see it before! Soundwave is clearly running in BASIC, since he can't even try to do his job unless he's a miniscule piece of outdated consumer hardware. In the beginning there was only the taper player, and the giant space robot came from that! Most certainly not a giant space robot who could have a billion such pieces of hardware within his body. He has to turn into pieces of hardware that don't actually communicate to do his job!

....

....

....

If this is the logic that drives the third most powerful Decepticon in the hiarchy, no wonder the bad guys are doomed to lose, Tramp.

Sarcasm will get you nowhere, my friend.

In essence, Soundwave is like Rattrap or Cheetor in that regards, and really always has been. And, really, does any type of vehicle really fit the name "Soundwave"? No. What does? a radio, a tape deck, a stereo system. These are all items whoe sole function is to reproduce sounds. That is the perfect form for someone named Soundwave

Once again, all your excuses fall down to your unreasoning hatred of mass conversion.
