Tramp.

Tramp, I've been meaning to ask this from the very start.

What's to stop the giant killer space robot from playing back his recordings any damn way he pleases? Is there some unwritten law that he can only use his alt mode speakers?

Well, let me put it to you this way. IF his alt mode wasn't designed to play back audio recordings, do you think he would even have those functions to begin with?

NO! he wouldn't have thoise functions. Therefore, whether or not he transformed to play back those recordings, having that type of alt mode allows him to do so. Soundwave's very design is geared towards audio/visual communications and recording. His alternate mode—disguised as a tape deck—is designed for that purpose and is what gives him that ability. Updating him to a more modern design still means that he needs to be a portable entertainment system or multimedia system like a stereo, portable DVD player or personal computer, not a vehicle.

So what if a satellite (for example) did a better job than a cassette player for spying?

(My missus worked in military intelligence for a long time so don't try to bluff me!)

He would be awfully lonely out in space don't you think? A satelite isn'y really that practical for a major character. It's fine for a minor one, but Soundwave was a major character. It is also only good for external surveylance, not for finding out what is going on inside a target building.

Then there is the issue of his minions.

Once again, it is a fundamental change to the character, and not one for the better.

Well now you're just stating opinions.

How about a communications vehicle then? Why does Soundwave have to sneak into nooks & crannies when his minions could (& should if they're true "minions") do it?

Your reasoning for Soundwave using magic-shrinky & Megatron not using it clash an awful lot to me. You keep on contradicting yourself & you constantly side-step the important issues to address arguments with trivia & opinions.

Down with magic-shrinky. :tdown

So a car WITH a stereo as a part of it doesn't work? If he isn't dedicating 100% of his person to playing back and recording these files, he CAN'T DO Blot?

What, does Soundwave run on Windows 95 or something, where he can't multi-task without locking up?

HE'S A COMMUNICATIONS EXPERT! WHAT ON EARTH MAKES YOU THINK HE WOULDN'T HAVE RECORD AND PLAYBACK FUNCTIONS BUILT IN TO BEGIN WITH?

Please, put down the Marvel/Sunbow Kool-Aid and think about what you just said. It's for your own good.

Well semantics here - a CD Player/Stereo doesn't play visuals.

But Once Again - I offer - a highly advanced built-throughout his body communications system with multiple antenneas, monitors, recording and playback systems, as well as a satilite attached to his shoulder/back. With all that he can do his function just fine, they can even say he can do it in news van mode (or whatever) with one simple little scene and it's done, if that would make you feel better about it. And having his minions follow the old cartoon - and he just waits for their reports somewhere else. How does this not work as being Soundwave?

UH Tramp?

YES Yes he would have those functions if thats what his Alien body was designed to do. THerefore, thats a bumch of Slag. You think they use tape decks on cybertron?

So basically - even if in robot mode he had a highly advanced communication system with the ability to use laser transmissions, as well as recieve and transmit messages and recordings to Megatron and all the other 'Cons, plus be able to take what his minions found out and relay them to Megatron and still be an alt mode of a blue van sitting on the street with dark windows - he would be totally useless, despite the fact that his minions just took care of the spying and he could be mobile and self-sufficient enough to relocate himself??? You're saying that Mass-Shifting is a better option than being able to still be a large robot and move around on his own, while still following like the old cartoon and having his minions do all the real spying/recording, without having to rely on some pseudoscience??

Let me ask you this, How would Soundwave display or play back those communucations? It is all well and good to be able to analize them, but if Megatron can't get them, what good is it?

Do you see how all this could be taken as very "trapped in a fanboy bubble"?? Just asking.
Sure I can, but that isn't the case. If it were, I would be cursing and screaming about the entire movie and how it "bastardizes" the Transformers, when for the most part I am very pleased with the results. The few issues I do hace with the designs are minor for the most part and have nothing to do with deviation from the source material.

What's wrong with Soundwave only doing external surveillance? He can send his minions into the building and sit in the parking lot outside (or in orbit, for that matter), then collect the data from them and relay it through whatever communications array his alt mode has to Megatron. Why would he need to be inside the building at all?

EDIT: DM, you said it better than I did ^_^

Well for starters, Why would Megatron's right-hand man, and best soldiers be left out in outerspace for months or years at a time when they could simply put an actual satelite in orbit? This freeing Soundwave up for more important missions?

Why wouldn't they buy a walkman at radio shack and free sw for more important missions?

If they can put a satelite in orbit why cant they play back a tape?

Perhaps he could project them through his headlights, or TRANSMIT THEM DIRECTLY TO MEGATRON rather than displaying them on the wall for the convenience of viewers at home?

Like sitting in the parking lot across from the building where his minions were gathering data while he personally coordinated their efforts?
