The Bond Gadget Test

The other advantage of Mass conversion is that it doesn't have to directly tie into his transformation at all times. In other words, If he needs to maintain his full size in alt mode, such as when he is with Megatron, he still can. He has done so in the past. It could also mean that, if the situation required it, he could, conceivably, maintain a small size in robot mode if necessary, though, that woudl not be the ideal use, and we have never intentionally seen him do this in the past.

So then the movie becomes "The (Literally) Incredible Shrinking Robot", and we've reduced an action film to a comedy, as per Rick Moranis's memorable "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" trilogy. There's a reason Ant-Man, Shrinking Violet, and the Wasp have never had big-budget films produced--their gimmick is so lame they can't carry a solo comic book title, let alone a film. And the shrinking gimmick tends to be the main feature of any film it's ever been used in--or else played for laughs. It's completely impractical from a Hollywood standpoint.

How did he get into those places in the cartoons? I don't think he just walked in. The original character is supposed to have short range telepathic abilities. He can read minds. This means he can also plant suggestions subliminally. In other words, he can use a human dupe to carry him inside, or use Frenzy under the cover of night. He certainly couldn't get inside a building if he were a vehicle either.

It's official. Either Tramp is Raksha in disguise, or all of his knowledge of Soundwave came from her website.

Please Note - THEY ARE MAKING an Ant-Man movie - it will be an Action Comedy.

And you are right - it will feature a lot of comedical moments as well as the shrinking powers will be the main point of the film.

As far as I know, Soundwave can READ minds by monitoring electromagnetic impulses in the brain or computer. He CANNOT transmit nor carry on a telepathic conversation nor telepathically implant ANYTHING. He can READ only - reception, not transmission.

As for the alt mode... I was in the USMC as a 2621 manual Morse Intercept / Signals Intelligence, with a secondary as Intercept Analyst / Electronic Warfare. The BEST alt mode for such a situation would be a modified command LAV with various antennae. I worked with such a vehicle, and it would make FAR more sense, story-wise, than a tape player. His minions could be the various specific radios and other comms gear within the vehicle, and the rear exit hatch could be his chest "tape door".

This makes a LOT more sense than shrinking down to a tape player.

You want stealth? Bafflers to silence the engine and some form of active camoflage (like the Military is working on RIGHT NOW) make MUCH more sense than the absolute power waste of mass shifting.

When you get right down to it, mass shifting is one of the biggest wastes of energy possible for a mechanical life form. And I'm normally an advocate of mass shifting in less realistic mediums, such as the G1 cartoon (though I normally use the 'mass shunting' variant in my personal theories). it was, after all, far more superheroic than realistic. Case in point: Windcharger's magnetics. Scientifically, all he should be able to do is pull metallic things towards him or push them away (or perhaps unleash an electromagnetic pulse, but unless he was shielded he'd fry himself, too). This would suffice for the episode where they replicated the Stunticons, but does NOT for MTMTE part 3, where he attempts to control Optimus Prime's fall.

I was a 31C,31D,1P; an Airborn Single Channel Radio Operator, and later an MSE radio transmission specialist in the Army. So, I have a good idea what you are talking about, thougn it could be after my time. I got out in '93.

The problem with an LAV is what good are baffleers if the vehicle mode itself draws attention? While an LAV might be fine out in the wilderness or on the battle field. It woudl stick out like a sore thumb in downtown LA. Why do you think Barricade chose a police car for his alt mode? Camouflage. An LAV is useless for that purpose. A piece of portable personal electronics, like a stereo, DVD player, or laptop computer, is not. It is the ultimate camouflage. That is where the mass conversion comes in. and, his minions can make up his periferals and media.

Umm, Who is Rashka?

ANd here I thought the ultimate camaflauge was being invisable.

So why not mass shift down to the microscopic level and stop screwing around?

Please read the very post you quoted...

Sticks out like a sore thumb? Not neccessarily. He drives in close enough, sends in his minions, and then records or broadcasts the info they obtain.

And before you argue, does the radio operator at Command level go out into the field to acquire intel? NO. He sits all comfy "in the rear with the gear" and just coordinates or receives the info that forward teams acquire.

So which is Soundwave? A forward team that would (by all rights) be low-ranking and expendable? Or command's comm unit, which would NOT go on the intel missions himself?

Out of curiosity, if Soundwave hadn't changed size in the old cartoon, would you still insist on him doing so were he to appear in the film?

By that do you mean if he had been a giant tape deck, or a tiny robot? Eithe way, I think i wopuld have had more of a problem with him back then if he didn't mass convert. a tiny robot is pretty useless, and a giant tape deck would have stuck out like a sore thumb. Secondly, I honestly don't think we would have even had a "Soundwave" if he didn't transform into what he did. His alt mode is what gave him his name.
