Musings on the movie

Ok this is just a wondering point for me, doesn't necessarily require a response mind, but as always feel free.

Just this, I wonder when it comes out, how many people who go to watch it who are not fan boys and like the look of it from the promo trailers, say this in whispered tones as they are watching it?

...I thought Bumblebee was a VW?!

...hang on Megatron, wasn't he a gun?

Just that I can imagine it happenening, and the irony is Mr Bay went out of his way to make a good film to appeal to everybody who wants to see something they remember and is a bit different, and I'm just wondering that maybe he has accidentally made a film that only the fanboys will get (i.e. that we accept it's just another generation of TFs like Beast Wars and all the rest).

That would be ironic indeed. To any film-maker a fanboy is a source of annoyance at best, and yet we are perhaps the only ones who as casual watchers actually get it?

Just a musing, with an ironic grin.

Yes, the general public will remember Megatron was a gun...but how many of the people who didn't stick with the franchise will be hoping he still is? That's a pure fanboy reaction, my friend, and exactly the kind of lame, kid's cartoon stigma the movie is trying to overcome.

A Kick-Ass Cybertronian Jet will suffice for the non-fan just fine.

Cuban Pete, I do believe you are right about that. I personally don't talk during movies, but this movie is gonna be so awesome I will probably sqeal and make all sorts of noises :tflaugh Reminds me about the time I was forced(kinda) into watching the Yu-gi-oh Movie in theatres. This kid sat a row or two away from me , but everytime those blasted god cards were used he would screech loudly... with that in remeberance, I will do my BEST to keep quite.

Bumblebee isn't a VW Bug because VW asked the Transformers franchise to stop using the Bug as Bumblebee's vehicle mode. They said they didn't want one of their brands associated with a war-themed product (ironic, since VW and the Bug were both initiated by Adolf Hitler).

Megatron simply can't be a gun. I remember hearing they intended him to be a gun when they first started on the script, but the animators couldn't find a way to realistically shrink him down to gun size during transformation. So Megatron not being a gun doesn't bother me at all.

That said, a Cyberton jet isn't the answer. Why, when all the other Decepticons and all the Autobots transform into Earth vehicles, does Megatron remain in his Cybertron mode? I would have preferred it if Megatron was a tank, or if they had to make him a jet, something like a Tornado GR.4 or a MiG-35.

I think there are story reasons for that...

If they explain it, then I don't have a problem with it.

I'm just worried they're going to do it "just because." Again, I hope you're right.
