Transformers in latest Popular Science magazine!

How come no one ever mentions that Transformers are still on the air with new shows and new product? They act like it only existed in the 80's.

Because most of the reinventions suck. If you wanted to introduce someone to the fandom would you show them a bunch of Energon episodes?

No, but similarly, would you show them "Sea change" or "Carnage in C minor"?

G1 has crazy mofo levels of nostalgia attached, it's that and nothing more that makes it better than Armada.

(Though yeah, Energon sucked)

My old roommate got (re)introduced to Transformers by watching the Armada DVD set I bought.

Its true. Theres only about a dozen or so episodes of G1 which are really worthwhile (+ the movie). Alot of it is actually really bad...

Agrees with teh Cuban.

and really it's only be rehashed it's never been really new or anything (except for BW)

Yet Beast Wars' popularity really didn't skyrocket until they actually brought in the G1 continuity. :P

I'd say it was plenty popular with kids from the get-go, they didn't have any preconceived notions about the show/toys; it just wasn't accepted by the previous TF fanbase until it was tied into G1 continuity.

Have you ever seen it's original ratings? ... Not too good.

Yeah they pretty much had to rebuild from scratch. I know that in the mid-90's I (as a G1 fan) was like "WTF is this gheyness" and paid no attention to it whatsoever.

Well, my point isn't that the beginning of Beast Wars was bad. IMO, it wasn't. It just took the path through G1 to get the fanbase re-interested. Don't ever let them fool you into thinking that the fanbase isn't needed.

I don't think the fanbase is ever needed, since these shows are targeted at kids to begin with. The show became popular because it was a good show.
