Alt mode sizes compared

I recall mentioning in both "live-action movie" and "1:24 Alternators" threads that Starscream/Seekers would be friggin' huge, as fighter planes are pretty darn big when compared to the things like cars and tanks.

Therefore, after picking up a 1:72 scale model car at Walmart the other day, I realized that I could take the following photo to give everyone an idea of the relative sizes of the average Autobot, Megs as an M1A1 tank, and a Seeker (I know it's an F14 in this photo, but I think the Tomcat is a bit shorter than the F15, if I recall correctly). Guess I need to find a 1:72 COE tractor trailer :redface .

Thats a perfect size for Megatron!

I still am not sure how they are going to pull off starscream in the Live movie.

i guess the new jet he is based on is smaller (?) and it kinda appears to fold in half - but hes still gonna tower over all teh car-bots.

The F22 is about the same size as an F14/F15.

Folding in half will get you a 'bot about the same height as a M1A1 tank that unfolds, but with about four times the bulk. Both would still tower over tiny Autobots.

Perhaps that's why movie Starscream doesn't use G1 Starscream's transformation, which would result in a 60-70 foot tall robot.

damn, if the G1 season 1 animation models were more to scale then it would have justified there being nearly three times as many autobots as cons. the cons would have made up for their small numbers with sheer physical size. Megs' and Soundwave's robot modes could have mass-shifted to the size of the seekers, too.

And how tall would Devastator be?

Just the tires on the Dump truck are what, 15ft tall?

And then Superion? Picture that if you can.

Alts are the same height as their car mode's length. Seeker heads are located behind the cockpit and seekers are the same height as the length of their jet mode from thrusters to the rear of the cockpit. To me, going off the top pic, this means that if they were real, the height difference between a seeker and an Autobot car would be the same as the difference in height between MP Prime and an Alt. Maybe a hair taller. This also means that a real Semi truck could potentially stretch out to be close in height to a real life Jet fighter bot. Just like the Movie scale guide the leaked suggest.

er.... maybe on one of those mega-industrial-sized trucks. A normal dump truck is the same size as any other construction vehicle.

But yeah Superion would be freaking huge.

Of course, all those robot parts for Silverbolt would still have to materialize out of thin air. He has one of the worst-executed alt modes ever.

    • EDIT 2: Okay, I think my real problem with this was the marketing image. The main image shows four robot turtles standing together, so I was ready for four toys, not one. Admittedly, I was so disappointed that I did not bother to read the article fully. That's my fault. I apologize. That said, now that I understand it is THE van that turns into a robot, not "robot versions of the four turtles," that makes more sense, but I don't get the four heads. There are images here of a bandana free head which I gather is not included. I would actually prefer a non-specific generic turtle head for the robot. I think that would remove a lot of confusion. At least for me. EDIT 1: My bad, I misunderstood. It's one toy with swappable heads. So, you made a thing based on a four member team, and you only want to sell one toy? You're not even trying to get people to "Collect all FOUR!" You do understand how toy sales work, right? Original Comment: This is a perfectly fine idea executed TERRIBLY. You made four unique toys, each specific to each of the Ninja Turtles, that all turn into the same vehicle? It would be one thing if they joined together to form the van. There have been transformer sets like that before. This is just wasted opportunity. Not to mention, that van exists for the turtles to ride in together as a team, so if they can turn into vehicles ... what do they need a van for? I get that that's their van, and that's cute and all, but ... this is just dumb and disappointing. Why not think about what kind of car each of them would drive based on their personalities, or ask some car company if they want to do a tie-in promotional? What do I want with four copies of the same van and no one to ride in any of them? It makes no sense.
