Alt Prime Review

he is prime so i will have him....but i dunno....yeah hasbro has been doing crappy prime impressions for a bit...but i like cybertrons prime...especially in bot mode...and energon prime is pretty pimp when hes compined with wing saber...i just wish he wasnt so fat....or small for that matter...plus im pissed that they didnt make cybertron prime bigger...starscream towers him witch is so not cool in my opinion...prime is god(behind primus)

Right now I'm personally catogorizing Prime in the same class as Prowl. Not a bad thing mind you it just means the toy has issues but with some fine tuning and what not can be surprisingly cool. I only just got Prowl and though the mode eventially grew on me despite fanboy outcrys he was still far from perfect. I didn't even bother taking a screwdriver to him, I just turned the legs around, folded the bumper halves behind him, and just as I did for Alt Grimlock left the pieces that fold over the front now back of the legs open to allow for some pretty good knee articulation. Posed like this in crouched position he looks absolutely awsome. :thumb

 

I'm hoping I can pull something off with Alt Prime. For one the legs look like they can really only face one way which is fine but that crotch plate has got to go. I don't understand why the original pics don't show it in the transformation and the new ones do. I am pretty convinced that piece either folds beneath the hood chest or turns to face the rear. Also, why in the hell above all things can't the legs be built to extend. Apparently Hasbro was able to make a far superior Skids, which is far more intricate in design, and was still able to fully customize him in pain aps/glitter and on top of it give him extended legs and all for the same price point.

 

Hell if giving Prime a decent crotchplate, and extended legs would have bumped him slightly out of the Alt price point by even $10 I would have gladly payed it. Seeing as this won't happen and Hasbro is releasing Prime as is guess I'll do what I can with him.

 

The rumour as I understand it is Prime could have been developed as early or even before Hound. Seeing as Megatron is now rumoured I hope his design/execution wasn't in the same time frame. Last thing the Alt line needs is a craptacular Megatron.

 

FWIW I think Prime will be Orion Pax. :thumb

The pics without the crotchplate were when the chest wasnt locked into place, neither can the plate fold up under the chest. Bear in mind that the sellers of these toys have no real interest in them and they are often mistransformed even on hasbros offical pictures (Meister anyone) If you dont want the crotchplate then the chest will not be locked into position and this bugged me more than the stupid plate itself. There is no swivel hinge on the plate either :(

I think the plate would look OK painted silver with some yellow highlights (hopes for this change in the production model).
