Even if you only cite the source you found it, you don't need to post a full link.

yes BUT by citing a "Mature content" source, you there for are giving a miner the means to go there, so by not citing that problem is averted..

No, it doesn't mean that you want them to go there. All citing a source does is inform people [/b]where the information or image originated, and who created it, and thus gove credit where credit is due. That is all citing does. If you got an image from a mature site, but don't want to post the link itself, just give the name if the site. You don't need to post the URL.

Yeah, but some smart cookie will just copy and paste the name of the site into Google and get there that way. That is what PF is trying to avoid.

But the whole debate is getting stupid. As long as we're not taking credit for someone elses work, and crediting as far as we can/deem appropriate. It should be enough.

Oh... believe me... a lot of Japanese fans are very particular about this sort of thing. Ever visited a Japanese fan site?? You'll find NOTHING there that wasn't made by themselves... they're really fussed when it comes to intellectual property. I have long and ugly stories which I'm not even gonna go into... I think it wouldn't be too much trouble to mention where you found the pic, provide the link and frankly if there's very adult content on the source site, just mention it next to the link so people know (thus proceed at their own risk).

Oggtimus, if you aren't giving credit to the artist, or citing the source, you are claiming it as your own even if that is not your intent. That is why it is so important to cite your source.

Ok Dudes chill (must every TF-girl-related subject de-evolve into a war)

When it comes to THIS THREAD we'll know its RANDOM TF-girls found around the net.

If its yours and you want credit due, SAY SO!!

That way if it has NO NAME we will know its found as is..

And if you want to find its creator or where it came from, heres a crazy idea.. ASK THE POSTER!! Its worked great thus far, so why change it.. Just to make "a few stingy users" happy..no thank you..

First off, I'm not the only one telling you to cite your sources, and I am quite calm, thank you. Secondly, wouldn't you want credit given for your work if someone posted it in some thread? Technically, by not citing your source, you are, in essence commiting plagerism, whether you intend to or not. Most sites I have been on require you to give credit to the source of any images you post. As a professional graphic designer and illustrator, if someone were to post one of my works without either my permission or giving proper credit, I would be livid. It isn't right, and violates my intellectual property, and is actually against the law. Even "fair use" requires you to at least cite your source and give credit to the creator of a given piece of work. Would you want someone posting your work without them giving you due credit or citing the source? If not, then why should you refuse to give others proper credit where it is due, or to cite the source of the works in question? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. IF you want to be given proper credit for your works, give proper credit to others work by citing your sources. It isn't hard to do.

Do you even read opposing post?!? that argument has be shoot down already..

Besides We (thous of us who have posted in this thread before) haven't "figured" it was their work unless they said so, most say "look what I found" and if theres more available like the image,a link will be included..

Beyond that this thread has been around 3 years and this is the first time someone has come up Starscreaming about the ways its been done..

Since this thread was conceived, If you want to "spec" (artist, website, etc) on a picture you ask the User who posted it.. And MOST will be glad to tell you (depending on you profile (age, general info)) This way younger users cant find inappropriate content that MAY be on the same site as the image submitted. This way of Posting has WORKED for this thread this whole time, and will work just fine, even after you stop belittling it. Don't you think if the Admin's had a problem with the way this thread ran, they would have said so.. AT LEAST 3 YEARS AGO!

And finally, you don't see people post pictures (that aren't theres) and start screaming "LOOK WHAT I DID, ALL ME, NO ONE ELSE'S, DIDN'T I DO GOOD!??!!!!" we're not 4 anymore.. stop treating us like we are ..if you don't mind...

Edit: you want sources fine ..::goes back an starts "editing" posts...

Well, some of us haven't been here three years ago,, and if we had, we would have said to cite your sources. and, for the most part, most of the images I have seen in this thread are cited, or have credit given to their creators. There are very few that are not. Secondly, I have already rebutted your objections about the mature content sites. Oggtimus' post does not shoot down anything. It is simply an excuse, and a weak one at that. Yes, some smart-ass could go looking for the site based upon its name, but that isn't your responsibility. Your responsibility is to give credit to your sources. If you don't want someone going to an adult site, don't post images from it or at the vey least warn readers that it is from an adult site and that minors should not try to go to that site. Don't post the link, just give the name. That will make it harder for someone to go to the site. No, it won't make it impossible, but it will make it more difficult. Thirdly, it is not the reader's responsibility to ask for the originator of a piece, it is the responsibility of the writer of the post to cite his sources.

I give up, theres no arguing with you, you don't listen, you just spout off anything that helps your argument, Oh and one more thing, this isn't a magazine or college, its a message board, thus Writing Legality really has little place here. And as long as there a 5% change that a minor can find "porn" thru a picture posted on this website (that in may have nothing to do with said Porn) By NOT giving that CHILD the opportunity, by NOT saying what site it came from, I personal sleep better at night..

If I know the artist I'll state it,

If I'M the Artist, I'll state it,

If the sites "appropriate" I'll state it,

if it get throu this Stupid thread divergence, I'll Fing State it,

Now please can we move past Tramp talking down to us like children... For once...

First off, I am not talking down to you or anyone. I am correcting you however. Secondly, Just because this is a message board is no excuse for not giving credit where it is due or citing your source. There is no excuse for that. If you want to "play it safe" don't post any images from a site containing "Adult" content. It is that simple.
